Northanger Abbey is the first novel of Jane Austen to be completed for publication. It is the story of Catherine Morland and her family friends Mr. and Mrs. Allen when they visit Bath, England. Catherine, age seventeen years-old, spends her times visiting with newly made friends and going to balls. She finds herself pursued by John Thorpe, who is the brother of new friend Isabella Thorpe and by Henry Tilney, the brother of new friend Eleanor Tilney. Much of the plot surrounds the estate of the Tilney family, known as Northanger Abbey, which she expects to be a dark place which is full of fantastical mystery.
