Book Reviews of The Official Guide for GMAT Review (With CD ROM) 13th Edition

This is a very good book to start your GMAT preparations. And, being the only book from the creators pf the test, it provides a good level of confidence for the preparations.
Though, I was disappointed with the delivery. The pages are bent on one corner, suggesting that the book fell on that edge and there was no hard cover for the transport. Quite disappointed since I have ordered quite a many items from Flipkart, and all were delivered in good state. Full marks to the book, but not to the delivery.

I am halfway this book and frankly cruising as the questions are very basic. I haven't attended the test and can't comment on the level but I am sure banking on this book alone would be a mistake.
This book covers basics properly and answer explanations are also good. I would recommend this book to someone who is starting the preparation and wants to cover the basics.

It is the best book for GMAT beginners. Provides diagnostic test that gives you an overall idea of the GMAT paper format. Really good layout of content. I recommend this for all the beginners. And of course since we are Indians we need to take extra efforts for the verbal section. The diagnostic test allows us to get an idea of which section you are lagging behind in and also those which you are good at. So don't skip the diagnostic test at all.

OG 13th Edition is absolute indispensable for anybody who plans to appear for GMAT. They contain the most authentic GMAT questions that too organised according to the level of difficulty. If you don't know where to start from or new to the idea of GMAT, the strategy should be to understand the exam pattern, take the diagnostic test and guage your expertise on the both the sections first. I have been reading a lot of reviews about OG and I would beg to differ that this is not the book to commence your preps with. These are most valuable real time GMAT questions and should not be wasted by practicing this as the first thing! Rather OG-13 should be practiced when you are half way through your preparation. The standard beginner level quant and verbal can be practiced from books such Kaplan or Manhattan and then the techniques should be applied on the real thing. Good luck with your preparation !

This book provides a complete guidance and confidence in attempting GMAT within a short span of time. The attached CD provide an actual experience of GMAT exam.

thinking of gmat!!! must buy it.1) It provides REAL GMAT questions, hence, simulating the actual difficulty level of the real GMAT.
2) The questions are arranged from the easiest to the toughest
3) It provides an overview of the question types that are most tested on the GMAT
Cons:
1) The explanations are sometimes cryptic, especially for Sentence correction. With Sentence Correction in particular, you would definitely need something to supplement this section of the book, just to understand the official explanations
2) The concept reviews before the start of each section is pretty useless. Its good if you want to understand topics are being tested, but if you really want to learn the concepts, from scratch I suggest you add another book to your study schedule.
3) The current GMAT Verbal section has been revised, and idioms are not being tested as heavily as it was before. Instead GMAC has put more focus on meanings, and scope shifts in questions in the verbal section, so the official guide Sentence correction section doesn't accurately cover the topics that the revised GMAT is testing.

Personally, I found the book very helpful. Its essential to incorporate this in your study schedule and I recommend it to all. But beware that you do need to use other books to complement your study schedule, this book alone wont do it.

I would recommend this book for those who has no idea where to start for the GMAT.. The book starts with the basic idea of what is GMAT and then how to prepare for it.. There are practice questions but those who think that this will act as a textbook must know that this is just a review for the whole GMAT exam. This will help you about the know-hows, don't expect it to be a textbook of any particular field..

And flipkart delivered this book in 6 days in a good condition.. Not perfect but good..

1. it is just right stuff for your preparation.
2. loads of questions and a must for your allrounded preparation.
3. But be aware the actual question in the exam are little more difficult than the question you will find in the book. So be prepared to see different level questions in the exam.

OG as it is lovingly referred to is the best way to start. This particular edition come with OG-12 in PDF form on a CD and is good way to start your GMAT prep. I would also like to add the Flipkart delivered as promised. I highly recommend this book for all those who are planning to take the GMAT do not be fooled by other books this is the bible.
