Carll, assistant in charge of the survey of the Oil Region of Pennsylvania, is unique of its kind, and will doubtless be considered an important contribution to geology, not only the geology of Pennsylvania, but of the world. For the first time geologists are now put in possession of a large collection of authentic, well considered and classified mass offacts, made up with great pains and carefulness, in the face of many difficulties, with the help of oil well owners and opera tors, not only during the progress of the survey, which com menced in 1874, but during ten years of a previous residence in Venango county...
