Amazing book!

I love this book. I read it after reading Meghna Pant's new book 'Happy Birthday' and must say that both are brilliant. The emotional connect you feel with each and every character is just outstanding.

How Time Transforms You

One and a Half Wife brings a beautiful portrayal of how time changes and transforms a humble, respectful and traditional Amara Malhotra to a bold and independent woman. As you read the book, you travel with the Malhotra family from India to the United States and naturally feel as though you are a pa… (View complete review)

One and a half Wife - Interesting Read

Meghna Pant has done a fantastic job for her first novel. The book is practically un-putdownable. The author has added a lot of life to all the characters esp. the protagonists and one can easily connect and develop an instant affection towards each of them. Amara feels as if she will come to life a… (View complete review)

Amara rocks

Amara Malhotra - the protagonist - rocks! She is more than a one-and-a-half wife. I would love to marry a girl like her.

I like Biji too. She reminds me of my mother.

Is there a sequel to this novel?

Dazzling

Every once in a while a book comes along that reminds you why you love to read. One & A Half Wife has got an absorbing story that pulls you right in, it's pacy such that you will not be able to put it down, and the characters stay with you long after you finish reading. It's insightful while also being funny, and very well-written. The theme is also timely, capturing the wave of the confident new India, the slow fall of the US, reverse immigration, divorce and modernism that is gripping our culture today. If you have to pick a book this year to read, read One & A Half Wife.

Meghna Pant has done a fantastic job for her first novel. The book is practically un-putdownable. The author has added a lot of life to all the characters esp. the protagonists and one can easily connect and develop an instant affection towards each of them. Amara feels as if she will come to life anytime and make the world fall in love with her. The in-sights the author provides about the little things of life makes one sit up and notice and then smile with satisfaction.
However, the novel has its shortcomings too. The story goes on a predictable note after the family moves back to Shimla. T

The story incorporates a lot of aspects like Indian obsession of settling in the USA during the 1990s, the hardships which the families had to bear while trying to make their American Dream come true, the stigmas attached to divorces and the so-called modernism that India is

Highly Recommended

I loved this book. It is an easy read and once you start, you would not want to part with it.

There are lot of issues and topics that the author has handled with immense care - like immigration, life and ways of Indians abroad... and mainly divorce.

Amara is a character everyone will identify with, feel for and root for as well.
I hope you give this book a try, it is worth it.

One and a Half Wife

One and a Half Wife is a brilliant book by an Indian author in a long time. The maturity with which Meghna Pant treats the subject of immigration, divorce and reverse-immigration among the 'one and a half generation' Indian-Americans is commendable. The characters are tightly chalked out and leave a long lasting impression on the reader, even after the book is done. It is easy to connect with the characters and you feel like you are actually a part of the life of the people in the book.
This is one of the rare stories that make it to print but something that we might have heard from a friend o

The best read of 2012!

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK! It is absolutely amazing and I just couldn't stop reading it. I really want Amara's story to continue though I really love the ending. One of the best books in a long time and the best this year in Indian fiction.
