    Flipkart official Review

A new book by Bill Bryson and you know for a fact that it cannot be bad. He cannot write a bad book. From travelogues to non-fiction to science, he knows the terrains he covers and presents them stupendously to his readers. “One Summer: America: 1927” is his latest offering and we must say that yet again, he doesn’t disappoint.

A lot happened in that one year – 1927 was almost the landmark year for America – Babe Ruth’s entry, the chain of events that led to the Great Depression, the talking pictures, the bombing of a school in Michigan and of course the list goes on. Bill Bryson skilfully takes on this year – almost making it his with his writing. The reader can almost see the events unfurl, even though it has beeneighty-six years, it just seems like yesterday. The writing will charm you – make you sad and also smile in most places. “One Summer” is one heck of a non-fiction read this year.

In the dawn of the nineteenth century, the United States was yet to make the sweeping changes the current generation knows it for. In 1927, things changed, and One Summer shows the world how America changed for eternity.

    Summary of the Book

In 1927, the United States was a delirious mix of confusion. A madman had a plan involving a chisel and a rather inaccessible mountain called Rushmore. The President didn't do much beyond an usual four hours of work and a young aviator Charles Lindbergh who was virtually unknown rose to fame. The year saw Babe Ruth's rise in Baseball and it also saw the events leading to the Great Depression. One summer changed America, and this book examines all the events that were involved in sealing the future of the United States forever.
