  • Description

When people hear the term, Financial Planning, they often confuse it with investment planning, portfolio management or tax planning. Some are immediately put off, as they simply do not have time to plan. They think of the process as complex and time-consuming; in fact, most believe they should think of a financial plan once they have enough wealth. There are many such myths about financial planning and its important to understand what financial planning really is.

Any decision about money impacts your overall finances. In fact, deciding not to invest or not to plan is also a decision. Any decision that you take about money and that has an impact on your overall financial situation is financial planning. The irony is that most people do financial planning unknowingly and in an unstructured manner, whether it is buying insurance policies, or stocks, or investing in real estate or taking a loan. These decisions are generally taken in isolation, with no relation to each other, and without considering the impact of one decision on the other.

So, why not do it in a structured manner?

Financial Planning is the process of utilizing your Financial Resources in the best possible manner to achieve your Financial Goals. Financial Planning is not the same as Investment Planning or taking advice from a chartered accountant or a banker. Financial planning encompasses several areas of personal finance such as:

    • Cash flow and Debt Management
    • Risk Management and Insurance Planning
    • Asset Allocation & Investment Planning
    • Taxation Planning
    • Retirement Planning
    • Estate Planning (Transfer of Wealth, Wills, Power of Attorneys and Trusts)

Leonardo Da Vinci said “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" and this book is an attempt to make financial planning and personal finance simple for everyone.

    Strongly recommended

As part of one of the largest investor networks I strongly recommend that all those who are novice to the world of investment and finance, they must read this book. One must read this book to know the basics of finance.
This is worth reading for non-finance people also.

Author's style of writing increases the interest on reading this book. Never expected like this before buying this book.

    Brilliant Book !!!

Amar Pandit's last book on how parents should teach their children to manage money has been a very useful book in our household (we live in a joint family). So much so that we often ended up quoting excerpts from the book. I was therefore excited to find out about this latest book of his and could not wait to lay my hands on it.

What you instantly notice is the writing style. It is conversational and he has made a good attempt to de-jargonize concepts. Quite unlike other books on the subject...

The best book to gift to all my friends

I found the book not only very thought provoking but also helpful in actually writing down my own financial goals which I found very easy to put down after seeing the examples given. I particularly liked the topic on asset allocation in the investments chapter and was happy to see someone finally write on philanthropy in legacy planning. Amar Pandit is an author who is able to explain complicated concepts of insurance and tax planning so easily to the layman so that we can take the correct s...

Good reference for laypeople interested in growing their money

This is a very easy to read and accessible reference. The language is practical and simple, and there's good financial advice in this book. I'd recommend it for anyone who is starting their career and who has had a windfall, and wants to understand how to manage money well.

Things that could be better: Book's binding is sub-par and could be improved. Flipkart's delivery was ahead of time, but one corner of the book was slightly damaged despite the packaging. The packaging was probably fine,...

    Financial Planning book no guide

The writing is lucid. Many concepts have been shared openly with out any hesitation. Has been the first book I have seen in Financial Planning. One must keep this book in his/her book shelves. The coverage is complete in its tone and knowledge requirement.
For a banker like me, this book was informative on financial literacy. How? and from when to start planning for your own investments? What are the peculiarities of the various financial goals? How to analyse your own income source? These to...
