  • Description

Othello is a classic tragedy penned by William Shakespeare. It depicts the story of Othello, the Moor of Venice, and Desdemona, the love of his life.

    Summary of the Book

Othello delves into the nuances of jealousy and betrayal among other human emotions. Desdemona and Othello are married to each other secretly, which upsets Roderigo. Iago, Othello’s ensign, is outraged and hates Othello for preferring Michael Cassio over him. He resolves to get his revenge on the Moor of Venice with Roderigo’s assistance. He persuades Roderigo to convince Desdemona’s father, Brabantio, about her secret marriage and then goes and warns Othello that Brabantio is coming after him. Iago then convinces Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair. Othello, who is utterly in love with Desdemona, is taken over by a deep jealousy. Will he be able to deal with his love without causing any harm to the relationship?

    Useful edition for Lit Students

The Norton Critical Edition of Othello has well-researched essays on key themes and motifs in Shakespeare's Othello. I personally find this edition to be better than the standard Doaba Pub. Edition used by Lit students (not to mention the cover, which is a zillion times more decent).
Flipkart's service was of course impeccable.
I've omitted one star from my rating because there might be another edition out there which I'm not aware of and is superior, for all I know.
