
The book in two volumes looks at the whole gamut of issuesrelated to Other Backward Classes (or OBCs) in India. Beginning with the originof class and the need for classifying society, the work deals with variouspre-Independence movements of the backward classes. Identifying the criteria forbackwardness, the volumes look at the status of the backward classes in thevarious states, as well as the different state commissions, and the MandalCommission. It describes provisions of reservations under the IndianConstitution and also looks at the policy of reservation in all its dimensions.
