  • Description

Written by a well-known cricket-player himself, this book covers the scintillating story of the resurrection of Rajasthan’s cricket team, and their way to victory.

    Summary Of The Book

Coming from a cricketer whose actions and work speak louder than the others, this is the story of the Rajasthan team, deemed as underdogs, and how they struggled vigorously for success and ultimately, got a good taste of it in the form of the coveted Ranji Trophy that had eluded them for some time.

Ranked 27th in a table that consisted of 27 teams, the fortune of the Rajasthan team changed with the entry of Aakash Chopra. However, he makes it very clear that the success mantra of this team wasn’t the entry of a star player. Instead, it was a summation of the individual efforts and achievements of all the players who were glimmering with endless hope and enthusiasm.

Chopra is a master at explaining the game of cricket and what goes into it. He acquaints the readers with the lesser-known cricket players, including Vineet Saxena, Sumit Mathur, and Deepak Chahar. He talks about their roots, their realisation of an opportunity to make their state proud, the grit and hard work they put into the cause, and their glorious journey towards self-discovery to win the most important trophy in Indian domestic cricket.

In addition to the triumphant journey of the Rajasthan team, this book provides amazing insights and an extreme close-up on various facets of domestic cricket, umpires with a chancy outlook, teams that wish to be treated as royalty and nothing less, and the officials who add up to the drama.

    About Aakash Chopra

By his own admission, Aakash Chopra is a cricketer, author, and a voracious reader.

He writes regularly for Cricinfo and the Hindustan Times. He is very active on Twitter and has a blog of his own too. He released another book in 2009, titled Beyond The Blues: A Cricket Season Like No Other.

He is a right-hand batsman who also proved to be a brilliant close-in fielder. For the same reason, he was often compared to Eknath Solkar. When he was playing for the Indian national team, he was known as a player who enjoyed the game and remained calm, more than anything else. He played for the national team from late 2003 to late 2004. Apart from that, he has played for different clubs including the Marylebone Cricket Club, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rajasthan Royals. He was instrumental in making Rajasthan win the Ranji Trophy.

    Must read for Cricket lovers!

Very well written and engaging book and a must read if you are a Cricket lover. The book is organized quite well and the best part i liked was the description of the Rajashthan's Ranji trophy players, their struggles, their low points, their high points etc. With so much focus in India on the national team players, the lesser known state players never get their due. Everyone likes the story of how an underdog turns the table and if you too like the same, you ought not to miss this story.

    Masterclass by Chopra

After reading the first book of Aakash Chopra (Beyond The Blues) I had been waiting for this book from a very long time and finally when I read it it was phenomenal. Aakash Chopra continues to tell the untold story of Indian Domestic Cricket. This book covers the journey of the underdogs side of the Rajasthan team to the prestigious Ranji Trophy. Love Cricket?

Easy to read and movingly written, Out of the Blue is one of those books on Indian cricket that helps you understand the game and its 'stars' better. More importantly it gives an insight into why and how Rajasthan won. The stories of the cricketers is such a delight and Mr. Chopra makes it an interesting gripping read.

A must read for every sports lover ! Am Proud I read this book !
Now Mr. Chopra needs to write on why and how Rajasthan retained the title ;-)

    A wonderful journey

Aakash describes here the rise to top for a team that were bottom placed in 2009. it details that the life of a cricket is not as easy as we think. they go through so many ups and downs. the story of Pankaj Singh is most encouraging and so of Hrishikesh's hardwork. It is an interesting read.
    Once also gets to feel how certain administrators in our much criticized BCCI are putting in efforts to enrich the game and push domestic cricket forward.;
Overall, a nice read for any Indian cricket fol...

Not as good as Beyond the blues

The book gives good insight to the Ranji trophy winning Rajasthan cricket team. I personally preferred Beyond the Blues by the same author, that was much better written and offered more insights into the life of a cricketer.

I found the sections on individual players somewhat boring , it could have been edited into couple of chapters. Not a bad book to read, not a "must read" in my opinion.
