A brilliant new book from the bestselling author of The Tipping Point and Blink.
Why are people successful? For centuries, humankind has grappled with this question, searching for the secret to accomplishing great things. In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an invigorating intellectual journey to show us what makes an extreme overachiever. He reveals that we pay far too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where successful people are from: their culture, their family, and their generation.
Gladwell examines how the careers of Bill Gates and the performance of world-class football players are alike; what top fighter pilots and The Beatles have in common; why so many top lawyers are Jewish; why Asians are good at maths; and why it is correct to say that the mathematician who solved Fermat's Theorem is not a genius. Just as he did in Blink, Gladwell overturns many of our conventional notions and creates an entirely new model for seeing the world.
Brilliant and entertaining, this is a landmark work that will simultaneously delight and illuminate.

Malcolm Gladwell comes up with yet another un-put-downable book.
Think you are an expert in any field? Yes, provided you have at least 10K hours of experience in that field.
Get a glimpse into the fascinating world of identifying patterns between airline accidents taking place across different parts of the world that have a similar culture.
Next time I would like Malcolm to look at the Asia map a bit more carefully. There is a country called India. Heard that name Malcolm?
Things happen. People become famous. Accidents occur. Companies become highly successful. The apparent reasons behind such occurances are known to all.
Through-out the book Gladwell asks and answers the question: WHAT ELSE?
WHAT ELSE worked in favour(or against) these occurances? The answers are what makes this book an awesome read :) He'll show you the importance of serendipity.
P.S: If you are highly 'intellectual', 'learned', cynical, prejudiced or simply a pessimist, save yourself the effort. Its a book for people believing in multiple perspectives coming in with an open mind...
It's just a collection of facts in public domain! Malcolm Gladwell has taken example of some of the famous personalities to come up with a theory that all your successes are a product of a lot of factors that are beyond your control.
The problem with his theory is that I can take some other data set to prove exactly the opposite thesis. I think Tipping Point and Blink are much better.
This is as good a book that you will find. It betters its already brilliant predecessors.. Blink and The tipping point. Unbelievably good analysis of why people succeed. Might prove a little long(but very important for your understanding) and especially the last chapter but but by that time you will be overwhelmed enough to be enjoying whatever he has to throw at you. Don't think twice before reading it.
This book is entirely about successful people. About people who , when presented with an extraordinary opportunity, jumped at the chance, worked insanely hard and achieved success. It also talks about how your cultural upbringing, your family history play a major role in your life and how traits passed over centuries down dont go away.
