Good book Review by Paramita RayI recently bought the book. It is a collection of columns the author wrote for newspapers over the lst couple of years. It talks about his various experiences and thoughts. I have not yet finished the book, however, as much of it as I've read till date, it is nice to read. The columns are short, crisp and sometimes funny or enlightening or reflective.
Like every columnist, Kr. Kakkar tends to be judgemental and strong with his use of words and opinions. But that is okay. One has to be prepared for that when reading a column and besides, I think many of us will agree with many of the views expressed by him in the book.
This is a perfect book to read when you are travelling to office by bus or sitting down for your lunch or tea break (in case you've nobody to talk to), etc.
The columns have a simple, Indian middle class flavour. Given that Mr. Kakkar is a Punjabi, a more fitting name could have been "Over a cup of tea"...but then this book was written and published in 2005...coffe was stylish then...Tata Tea Jaago Re campaign had not happened and tea was not as chic. I believe the publishers did not put as much thought to the essence of the book which is the musings of a common Indian man.
Nevertheless, it is a good read.
