From Panasonic’s highly revered and reputed Lumix series of digital cameras is the DMC-GF3 mirrorless camera. Mirrorless cameras are amongst the newer latest innovations in the field of digital photography, which is best described as a perfect compromise between a regular digital camera and a full-fledged DSLR. But unlike compact digital cameras, these mirrorless cameras come equipped with an interchangeable lens mount like a DSLR but do not have a mirror-based optical viewfinder.
This highly capable mirrorless digital camera from Panasonic operates on a 17.3 mm x 13 mm Live MOS image sensor, giving it the capability to capture high quality images at an incredible 12.1 megapixel resolution. The advent the high performance optical sensor makes it possible to capture extremely clear high resolution images, while also being capable of recording full HD videos with a jaw dropping resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps.
Body
Made to function with a performance level that is relatively close to that of a standard DSLR, this mirrorless digital camera from Panasonic is noticeably smaller in size with dimensions of 107.7 (W) x 67.1 (H) x 32.5 (D) mm. Composed of highly durable and light weight components, this digital interchangeable lens system camera manages to weigh just 264 g which includes the camera body, memory card and battery. This compact body design along with its reduced weight provides you with easy handling, resulting in extensive and prolonged usage. The camera’s highly capable electronic viewfinder makes it possible for all your shots to be perfectly framed and composed.
Featuring a 3 inch TFT LCD with Touch Panel that comes with a display resolution of 460,000 dot pixels, this digital camera lets you view all your captured images at a very high quality. Powered by a 7.2 V, 940 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the DMC-GF3 is capable of shooting approximately 320 to 340 shots on a single full charge.
All the captures images are saved in the JPEG (DCF, Exif 2.3), RAW and MPO (only when using a 3D lens) formats while the high definition videos are saved in the AVCHD or QuickTime Motion JPEG file format with the corresponding audio files stored in the Linear PCM file format. These recorded media files are stored on an SD, SDHC or SDXC memory card.
The saved media files from the memory card can easily be transferred to a PC or a laptop through the camera’s high-speed USB 2.0 digital interface. This camera also features a Type C HDMI Mini connectivity port that gives you the option to reliving all those memories on a high definition television, be it images and videos.
Performance
This mirrorless digital camera from Panasonic features the highly capable LUMIX G VARIO lens with Primary (RGB) Colour Filter. This specialised lens has a focal length of 14 mm - 42 mm, which is a 35 mm equivalent of 28 mm – 84 mm. With an aperture control range of f/3.5 - f/5.6, this Panasonic mirrorless digital camera works using the Contrast AF System to give you sharp and crystal clear imaging. The ISO light sensitivity on the DMC-GF3 ranges from ISO 160 to 6400, giving it the ability to consistently capture sharp and clear images even under varying lighting conditions.
This high performance mirrorless digital camera also has an operational shutter speed ranging from an incredibly high 1/4000 sec to an amazingly long 60 sec. This Panasonic digital camera features a highly useful built-in pop-up flash unit that has an operational range of 1 m to 3.4 m, which along with the availability of a variety of flash modes gives you the ability to capture clear and sharp images even under unfavourable lighting conditions.
Features & Connectivity
To further adjust the feel and temperature of the image is the availability of a huge number of pre-set white balancing settings and shooting modes that automatically detected and selected the appropriate camera settings to best suit the current situation. Also featuring a Supersonic Wave Filter Sensor Dust Reduction system, the DMC-GF3 has the ability to remove the dust that settles on the image sensor which usually causes mild distortion and deteriorated image quality.
The other very useful functions include Face Detection and Red Eye Reduction which help you capture clear and optimized people photos; while the self-timer function lets you delay the shutter release by 2 or 10 seconds, making self-portraits or group shots extremely fun and convenient. This Panasonic DMC-GF3 sports a continuous mode which lets you take up to 3.8 fps, giving you the option of capturing the entire flow of events without missing out on the action. The PictBridge technology lets you connect the camera directly to a printer without a PC, enabling easy direct photo printing.
