Panty (English, Hardcover, Bandyopadhyay Sangeeta)
Flipkart Official Review
There are very few books that are bold and yet are not perverse when it comes to the writing. “Panty” is one such book. The writing is simple, inviting and about two women trying to find their own in the world. It is a book of two novellas – Hypnosis and Panty.
Hypnosis is about a woman who is trying to recreate a doomed love-affair and know more about what happened through hypnosis. Panty on the other hand is about a woman who moves into an apartment and finds another woman’s panty – a leopard skin print and starts thinking of the woman’s sexual life.
Both these novellas are intriguing, frank and raw to the core. The writing will make you laugh, cry and also jump for liberation. “Panty” is a book you should not miss reading. It is simply stunning. Sangeeta’s words, translated beautifully by Arunava Sinha will leave you begging for more.
Panty is a set of two romance novellas which explore women and their deeply seeded sexual desires.
Summary of the Book
The titular novella tells the tale of a woman who has moved into a guest house. When she has her period, she finds that she neither has a spare pair of panties or a sanitary pad. In her desperation she finds a leopard skin panty in the room, and it isn't hers. In a search for her own definition of pleasure, the woman thinks about the sort of sexual life the owner of the panty must have had, and their lives intermingle and blend in an explosion of passion and fantasy. In the other novella, Hypnosis, a woman tries to rediscover love, having found only a doomed and unconsummated affair with a famous musician. In her search, she allows herself to be hypnotized and drugged as a last resort. A mix of bold and passionate writing, Bandyopadhyay's stories portray a realistic vision of womanhood and desire.
