Indonesia's media has transformed itself and the way the country thinks about its political system. In the last ten years, Indonesia has reinvented the country into a democracy through an extensive series of reforms. The media and civil society have been instrumental in driving and shaping this period of reformasi. The media in Indonesia today is not the media of Indonesia under Soeharto. This book takes a snapshot of Indonesia on the cusp of solidifying its consolidation of democracy--the 2004 Presidential Elections. By using Kompas daily as a case study, we learn that the media continued to focus on old paradigms, such as party instead of candidate, while educating the public on the process and promoting new attitudes towards elections--voting with Nurani Hati--a personal and clean conscience.
