He developed a love of horses and livestock on his grandparents' farm in Pennsylvania which stayed with him throughout his life. His novels are set in the West and in revolutionary Mexico. Partners in Chance was published in 1921. The hero was based on Eugene Manlove Rhodes a friend of Knibbs . Henry Knibbs uses imagery to transport the reader back in time to the glory of the west. You can smell the sweat of the ponies, hear the wind in the tall grass and feel the heat from an evening campfire.
