Book: Paths Of Glory
Some people have dreams that are so magnificent that if they were to achieve them, their place in history would be guaranteed. Francis Drake, Robert Scott, Charles Lindbergh, Amy Johnson, Edmund Hilary, Neil Armstrong, and Lewis and Clark are among such individuals. But what if one man had such a dream, and once he'd fulfilled it, there was no proof that he had achieved his ambition? Jeffrey Archer's latest book, "Paths of Glory," is the story of such a man---George Mallory. Mallory once told an American reporter that he wanted to climb Mt. Everest, "because it's there." On his third attempt in 1924, at age thirty-seven, he was last seen six hundred feet from the top. His body was found in 1999, and it still remains a mystery whether he ever reached the summit. But only after you've turned the last page of this extraordinary novel, inspired by a true story, will you be able to decide if George Mallory's name should be added to the list of legends, in which case another name would have to be removed. "Paths of Glory" is truly a triumph.
Book Reviews of Paths Of Glory
*Of Uncrowned Emperors...
Review by Arun Kapoor
One often wonders what the true sense of purpose is of one's life. Also, one often wonders what is the horizon of human existence and life. Paths of Glory exemplifies these two things, and does it well. It is amazing to see the immense headiness and sense of purpose in George Mallory. For all who don't know about the mystery that still eludes us, George Mallory and Sandy Irvine are touted to be the first two mortals of our race who stepped upon Everest. Except that, they never returned to tell their tale. And their bodies were also not found for a great chunk of time. Malllory's has been found now and the conspiracy theories are unbound and many. Irvine's left to be found and perhaps someday his would be found too, and perhaps that Kodak camera............

It was a question revisited after I read this book. And this time, I was pulled into doing a lot of research to seek more answers. I continue to seek them still. And in case any of you find out further, plese do share it with me at aru.soleil@gmail.com

A strong recommendation. Must read.
*Big deal!
Review by Salauddeen
Since it has been demonstrated more than once that it is possible to climb the Mt Sagarmatha (aka Everest) without needing bottled air, it is quite conceivable that thousands of yogis may have climbed it without leaving behind extant records!
