This book is written on hardware which are used in desk top computer. The book contains 14 chapters which have included the general construction details with pictures of mouse, keyboard, monitor, hard disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM, SMPS, motherboard, RAM chip, microprocessor and modem along with their functions and related problems and their rectification.

All the external connections like monitor, mouse, keyboard, modem, speaker, printer and power with the CPU are displayed by pictures. Internal power connections from SMPS to the hard disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM and motherboard are explained and shown by pictures. Ribbon cables or data cables connections from motherboard to the hard disk, floppy disk, CD-ROM are displayed by figure. This internal and external connections help the reader to assemble his own computer.

In the chapter of "Motherboard" each and every components are explained with their positions on the motherboard and illustrated by pictures. Installation of microprocessor on motherboard and the jumpers setting is explained to enable the processor to work properly.

After assembly of computer, "how to make it to work", is explained .

Chapter on DOS is added for making the hard disk workable by making partition, formatting and loading the windows operating system. Chapter on BIOS setup is added which is very much required during setting the booting sequence.

Loading of drivers is explained to enable the hardware to work. Installation of modem for internet connection is also added as an additional chapter.

Problems and their rectification concern with each and every hardware is explained in details which will enable the reader to maintain his computer by himself. If anybody wants to choose hardware engineering as his carrier then this book will be helpful to him as a practical guide.

Ganesh Prasad Sangia, the author of this book is, BE(Hon's) Mechanical from Jabalpur university. He is also graduate in Industrial Engineering from Industrial Institute of Industrial Engineering Pawai (Mumbai).

He is Ex-Senior Manager of Steel Authority of India and associated with the several computer applications in Bhilai Steel Plant in the area of budgetary control, cost control and computer based monitoring system.
