Pearl

The Pearl is a parable about how Kino the fisherman finds the 'pearl of the world', and the trauma that he, his wife Juana and the baby Coyotito have to undergo as a result of Kino having the greatest pearl any man ever had. Its possession changes Kino's life- for the worse. Those who had refused to even talk to him- even the doctor who had refused to treat Kino's baby after Coyotito was bitten by a scorpion- now flocks to his hut with the sole aim of laying their hands on 'the pearl'. But Kino is too smart for them, and foils their evil designs. When his baby dies, Kino finally is convinced that the pearl is indeed evil, and throws it back to where he had found it- the bottom of the great sea.
