Except one.

"He is Peter Pan, you know, mother," says Wendy.

At first Mrs. Darling does not know the name. Then thinking back into her childhood, she remembers a Peter Pan, said to live with the fairies . . . and odd stories about him -- for instance that when children died he went part of the way with them, so they should not feel frightened. She had believed in him at the time. Now that she is married and full of sense she quite doubts there is any such person.

"Besides," Mrs. Darling says to Wendy, "surely he would be grown up by this time "
