Philips AZ5740 Boom Box

I just bought this boom box from philps, which was not up to my expectation. you can buy this if you just want music player with USB, CD and cassette in it. Dont mislead by remote, as it is just used for CD/DVD player (minus volume adjustment).

pros:
>Good sound quality
>can play cassette, CD, DVD
>play from USB
>can act as a dvd player (if you connect to TV)
>can record cassettes audio

cons:
> remote cannot be used for 65% of functions available in the music system
> Remote is just used for CD(i thought i could change the different mode like CD, USB, tape etc).
Remote cannot adjust volume (u have to go for physical knob for volume adjustment)
>Every time CD starts playing from first song which is annoying
>Does not have any light to indicate its ON
>LCD does not display "Tape" (i know this sounds silly..)

First I need to confess that I didn't buy this from FK, I got it local shop 2 years ago,but this system got speaker expandability which deserve to mention ...as I'm going to tell anyhow.

This is the Flagship boombox offering from Philips India, It got Tape-Cassette,USB Stick Play,FM Radio,Audio CD/MP3 CD/VCD/DVD Video Disc. It can't play any DVD which is not formatted as DVD-Video,It don't have AM Radio or SW radio freq. other than FM. It can play even NTFS formatted USB stick as long as contain MP3 files (Max 16 GB tested). The Bundle Remote got very limited functionality about playing audio from CD or USB...you can toss it back to wardrobe as long as you use this system for audio....As I believe most user use it for audio only. The tiny mono color LCD don't have any backlight as it shows/printed everywhere by philips and the information it provide bare minimum which is Track No. Album No (For MP3 CD/File),Track Time, Repeat etc etc.

What this make special is it got "Line Out" 3.5" port which output S-Video and 2 channel RCA Stereo output (Yes! that compatible converter cable is right there out-of-the box). Anyhow those 2 RCA channel produce very clean sound which can be fed to a amp or 2.1 speaker system and possibility is unlimited.

Anyhow I bought F&D A-520 2.1 speaker from Flipkart and connect it and Woooh ! A hell of music system .

So I can play music by inbuilt 4-inch speaker Full Range Speakers + F&D A-520.

Though for this I need to adjust A-520's vol and Philips AZ5740's vol separately, which is not so difficult as it may sounds coz AZ5740 not so loud anyway. Else user can use 3.5 headphone jack but then the audio is processed by AZ5740 not the separate independent amp or pre-amp.

As I rate this product 4 out 5 due to limited remote function, but overall a great product.

This is fine product to buy. If you need all in 1 device then definitely go for it.
it plays CD/DVD/USB/Audio cassete. I am using it since 6 months

Very good product from Philips.

Only 1 thing is: you have to set volume by volume button, you can not operate by remote.

Timely delivery from Flipkart

Works as mentioned except for DVDs. If you have bought DVDs outside India, this will not play those, most probably. Keep away from this product; looks like Philips wants to stick to region encoding at the cost of consumers. I will definitely stay away from Philips products in future.
