Philips GoGear Mix 2 GB MP3 Player

I ordered this player a month back and as always, buying it was a breeze on Flipkart. It was also delivered well in time.

Transfer of music to the player was smooth; it was detected on my computer with no problem at all. There was some synching software on the player which I didn't bother to use.

The first impression I got was that it was a very handy little thing - light and portable. The cap that covers the male USB port is attached to the main body with a plastic cover so that you don't lose it. The buttons themselves seem sturdy but a little unresponsive. The screen is bright and visible - good enough for its purposes. You can also adjust its contrast.
Audio is very important in a music player and this gogear is okay in that department. However, the audio output is fairly high in treble or high frequencies rather than bass - so if you're a metal fan, or you like to listen to techno, prepare to be disappointed. There is an graphical equalizer, but it made a barely noticeable difference. As far as volume goes, it's fantastic. Move the volume slider to more than half way and your ears will be ringing, move it all the way and you will go deaf.
Software-wise, the interface is good enough for its purposes - and is very easy to use.

I took it out for a run and it didn't disappoint. It was a little slow to respond to button presses - especially when locking/unlocking the keys - but otherwise it worked well enough.
Two jogs later, it began to give me problems - the earphones began to play on only one side, and if the player got jiggled a little while running, the music stopped playing altogether. The display shows that music is playing but there isn't any sound from the earphones. Thoroughly irritating when you're in last lap of your jog and counting on the music to keep rhythm and keep you going.
Ultimately last week, the unit has stopped working altogether. Guess I'll have to go to Philips and ask them for a replacement.

My advice would be to go for a more dependable music player - even if it costs more.

I bought this product from flipkart and I love it. The discount they gave is wonderful and also this product just makes me so happy. The sound quality is really good. Also recording is beyond what I imagined. Your packing is really really perfect. Keep it up. Please do add more products soon flipkart. YOU ROCK!!

Some info I want to share.
- Received the shipment in 4 days. Packing was good.
- Player itself is decent. Sound quality is similar to what you get from an iPod shuffle. Base is ok.
- Fullsound feature disables Equalizer/Presets. So you can't have them both.
- There is no clip on the player so you have to drop it in your pocket or hang it from your neck.

Recording:I primarily ordered this for recording song practice sessions during my daughters' music class. Turned out that it is awfully inadequate for this purpose. Its recording capabilities are very weak if the unit is any further than a feet away. Even when kept near, its sound quality is awful as it clips a lot. Hence do not buy this unit for recording purpose(for class lecture etc) as Sony is better model for the same.(rating 0 out of 5)

User interface: This has very intuitive and a excellent user interface and I could configure/use all features straight away as soon as got it. Its custom equalizer is also nicely done - it shows a bar each for Bass, Low, Mid, High and Treble. Hence very easy to set as per your preferences.
Also the PC interface and copying was straightforward.

Music quality: This is very subjective but I would rate it only average. (It is not as good as my 3 year old Sansa MP3 player or Nokia E63 phone MP3 player in terms of richness of music reproduction)(rating 3 out of 5)

Battery backup: : Below average. The battery indicator went low (one/two bars) after about 60-90 minutes of testing with various music after full charge.(rating 2 out of 5)

Color/design etc: I ordered blue but got a aqua (my daughter liked it) .There is a provision for attaching a handstrap. Very lightweight.

Bought this player from Flipkart after I lost my older Samsung U5. The price advantage and delivery promptness at Flipkart is unquestionable, so I'll only talk about the player.

The white plastic of the body looks cheap but is surprisingly solid, though the shiny body looks scratch-prone. The screen is LCD and, though not as good as an OLED, does it's job very well.

I did not bother trying on the bundled earphones at all - I don't expect those to sound any good. I tried them with a Philips SHQ1000 first. The sound was clear, full-bodied, and quite warm. Later, using Philips SHS8100 earphones gave me a slightly better sound. If buying this player (or for that matter any such player), I'd recommend investing in a better pair of earphones right away.

Another point worth a mention, the USB cap in this player has a small tag that secures it to the body so that it isn't misplaced easily. This thoughtful touch is welcome, especially when compared to the equivalent Sony players that have caps that are only too happy to slide off.
