This first volume of an adaptation of the Resnick, Halliday and Walkers Fundamental of Physics ( 8th edition) for IIT-JEE and offers a solid understanding of fundamental concepts and helps reader apply this conceptual understanding to quantitative problem solving. This volume also covers topics on Units and Dimensions, Mechanics and Thermal Physics.

The text has been rearranged as per the IIT-JEE syllabus and many small topics have been included in the original chapters to make the coverage more complete. These include Net Motion, Constrained Motion, Projection on the Inclined Plane, etc. A new chapter on Circular Motion has been created by collation of material on Kinematics of Circular Motion from the chapters on Two- and Three-Dimensional Motion and Dynamics of Circular Motion.

A number of additional problems and solved examples have been included to cover all requirements of IIT-JEE examination. The book offers a unique problem-solving technique: 4Cs (Conceptualize, Classify, Compute and Categorize), which guides students towards stepwise problem-solving.

The revised edition contains new end of chapter material containing all question types as per IIT-JEE pattern: Reasoning and Assertion type, Multiple-choice and Problems.

About The Authors
David Halliday
is associated with the University of Pittsburgh as Professor Emeritus. As department chair in 1960, he and Robert Resnick collaborated on Physics for Students of Science and Engineering and then on Fundamentals of Physics. Fundamentals is currently in its eighth edition and has since been handed over from Halliday and Resnick to Jearl Walker. Dr. Halliday is retired and resides in Seattle.

Robert Resnick is professor emeritus at Rensselaer and the former Edward P.

Hamilton Distinguished Professor of Science Education, 1974-93. Together with his co-author David Halliday, he revolutionized physics education with their now famous textbook on general physics, still one of the most highly regarded texts in the field today.

Jearl Walker, professor of physics at Cleveland State University, received his BS in physics from MIT in 1967 and his PhD in physics from University of Maryland in 1973. His book The Flying Circus of Physics was published 30 years ago, has been translated into at least 10 languages, and is still being sold worldwide. For 16 years he toured his Flying Circus talk throughout the U.S. and Canada, introducing such physics stunts as the bed-of-nails demonstration and the walking-on-hot-coals demonstration to countless physics teachers, who then proceeded to hurt themselves when they repeated the stunts in their own classrooms. These talks led to his PBS television show Kinetic Karnival which ran nationally for years and which earned an Emmy.

Amit Gupta is the Head of Physics Department at BANSAL CLASSES, KOTA which is the most prestigious coaching academy for IIT-JEE aspirants. An IITian himself, he has been teaching Physics for the past 10 years to the students preparing for the JEE.

A good mutation of the classic text but expected more from AG..

First of all, the main difference from the original text is that a separate exercise for objective problems and an additional subjective problems exercise has been added. But being acquainted with Amit Gupta through bansal classes i expected problems of more higher difficulty. Some of the problems in the additional exercise are directly from H C verma ,so the other ones must be from other international authors.

Pros:
1) Theory is sufficient for JEE

2) Printing is of very good quality

3) Answers are given to both odd and even numbered problems unlike the original text.

4) Problems are solved through the four C's approach which is a good approach for the new analytical type of JEE problems.

Cons:
1)Would have appreciated a few dozen more problems.
No other Cons.

Perfect book for physics lovers :)

This is a really good book in my opinion, simply because of the way concepts are explained. It's simple, concise, and if you read it properly, you feel someone is actually explaining stuff to you real-time.
It is finally a Resnick Halliday :) and adapted for IIT JEE! Provides for the a pretty much perfect read :)

Awesome for jee aspirants

I just love this book and having an opportunity to learn from Amit
Gupta (AG) himself is just awesome.
It may not have many solved examples but the ones which are there are explained in detail and it also improves your thought process. It has questions of all type like single correct, multiple correct, and integer type.
With the help of this book you will be able to solve tests with confidence......
