PMR: Terrorist; The (English) (Paperback) Price: Rs.145

The Terrorist is about the factors which push ordinary individuals into terrorism and the harsh ground situation in Kashmir, which forms the base of the situation.

Summary Of The Book

The Terrorist talks about victims of circumstances and bases itself on the Kashmir situation. The two main protagonists Suvir and Murad, are a special Forces official and computer engineer respectively. Murad gives up his own secularism and falls prey to fanatic chauvinism at his workplace and neighbourhood. The Terrorist shows the transformation of Murad who crosses the border and becomes one of the most dreaded terrorists after meeting a rebellious group. Suvir has his own obsession with fatality. He has his own history of pain and anguish, after being rejected by his fiancee.

The Terrorist talks about Murad and Suvir who have both fallen prey to their circumstances. They choose a different path, numbed by the pain of personal loss. They choose terrorism and the Special Forces respectively. The book brings us to the ultimate climax: a major terrorist operation in Delhi where prevention and success become respective aims. Who wins? Readers can expect to be taken on a breathtaking journey all throughout the book. There is adequate usage of flashbacks along with some really nail biting encounters.

The novel moves across a variety of settings from a Srinagar cantonment to seedy hotels in Paharganj and malls in Gurgaon. Essential details are highlighted by the author like the Babri Masjid incident or terrorist blasts in Mumbai which give it ample doses of reality. The book delves deep into a terrorist’s minds, motives and reasons behind his choices and actions. The Terrorist presents a heady cocktail of fanaticism, insurgency situations and other national problems. The book is almost movie-like, with a plot bound to hook the reader till the very end.

An honest opinion.

If Teesta Seetalvad, Ajmal Kasab and Hyderabad MP Owaisi could get together and write a novel it would be very much like this book ???The Terrorist??? by Mr. Bhasin. The writer seems to have a profound hatred for hindus and paints them as being by and large inherently evil, whose only purpose in life is to set dogs on aged and kind hearted muslim pensioners, a deed accompanied by the chanting of a hindu mantra and in full view of a hindu goddess or two ??? as it happens in the book. Muslims are capable of no evil, and anything bad they do is because a evil hindu first did 100 times more evi... ()

Muslims are capable of no evil, and anything bad they do is because a evil hindu first did 100 times more evil things to them. So whatever they do ??? killing people, setting up bomb blasts etc. is fully justifiable. This is the writer???s brilliant explanation for every single bomb blast or terrorist killing carried out in the name of Islam since the beginning of time.

Also, one more thing. This book seems to be born out of an extraordinary hatred the writer harbours towards the Chief Minister of India???s best administered state, who also happens to be the most popular politician in the country. The writer cannot harm this leader in real life, so take out all his hatred and anger towards this leader by making his characters do all sorts of despicable things to him and having him behave as ignominiously as possible.

All this could still have been forgiven had the writing been any good or the story interesting. They are not.

Huge Disappointment

When I bought this book, I thought it would be a riveting tale of India's fight against terror. Instead, it turned into what looks like a politically influenced, 'pseudo-secular' pile of dog poop.

The author tries every trick in the book to portray India as a land where Muslims have been discriminated against, beaten & deprived since time immemorial. He states through his book that it is only because of the evil & fascist Hindus that Islamic terror exists & how Hindus turn Muslims from law abiding, benign citizens into hardcore terrorist.

By the time I reached the end of this book, I felt like puking.

The author makes a mockery out of India's fight against terror and it is not funny. He also mocks & disgraces an extremely popular Hindutva leader in India, a potential future PM.

The author needs to brush up his knowledge. Islamic terrorist attack India not because of any hardships (how can Pakistanis face hardships in India???), but because India is a secular state & is the home to Hindus - Kafirs. The Islamic terrorism is fuelled by hate & religious bigotry, which Mr.Bhasin never brings up at all. All he raves about is how the Indian government, Indian people (Hindus only), the Army, Police all & everyone is complicit in turning innocent Muslims into terrorist.

Worst novel ever, I want my money back.

An Absolute Page Turner

There are few books that will cause me to suspend all my activities and read the it cover to cover. This is one such book. A book ,which i best describe as a page turner, has all the elements of a good thriller - A good pace to it, Well defined and fleshed out characters, relevant on current issues, well done research etc etc.

Two things set this book apart from most books i have read. Firstly its set in India. As a reader of many Western thrillers (Daniel Silva, Jeffrey Deaver, David Baldacci etc) i find myself more often than not lost in the alien environment of American cities those boo...

Two things set this book apart from most books i have read. Firstly its set in India. As a reader of many Western thrillers (Daniel Silva, Jeffrey Deaver, David Baldacci etc) i find myself more often than not lost in the alien environment of American cities those books are set in. Its a refreshing change to be able to relate to the cities this book spans across, whether its the crowded streets of Chandni Chowk or the beautiful Marine Drive. Secondly i find the fleshing out of the protagonist and the antagonist's characters very intriguing. Most writers tend to present a rigidly defined character, what this author manages to do is to involve the reader in the development of the character. We see various aspects of both Suvir and Murad and we see how they do the things they do and come to be the way they are.

In my opinion its a definite must buy and must read

Kudos to Juggi

Firstly, a very fast read.I am quite impressed with the book. Awesome. Very easily written. The background behind becoming a terrorist is touching though..even the training of the army, the endurance required, the grind is well described..
We can just thumb through the pages. I really loved to finish the book at jet speed.

Waiting for the Movie

Gripping thrillers set in India and written by Indian authors, in English, are hard to come by. The Terrorist by Juggi Bhasin is a welcome addition to the ranks. Despite sketching out the characters and describing the actions in great detail, the narrative's pace does not slacken throughout the 500 odd pages. Multiple threads have been skilfully weaved into the story, running concurrently without a single strand straying out of pattern. Shades of black, white and grey in the characters surfacing intermittently keeps the interest alive in the battle between the good and the evil. A well told... ()

Shades of black, white and grey in the characters surfacing intermittently keeps the interest alive in the battle between the good and the evil. A well told story that can easily be transformed into a Bollywood potboiler - as I am sure the author must be considering. One only hopes that the thinly veiled references to certain individuals and organisations don't come in the way.

Overall a highly recommended read. The only cloud in the horizon is the paper quality - possibly in a bid to keep the price down, the publisher seems to have cut some corners there. One wouldn't have minded paying a wee bit extra to have the book in better quality paper.

Superb Read

One word WOW!!! You cannot leave this book in the middle. The book packs an adrenaline punch in each page. The characters are very well etched and you can almost feel the pain of the terrorist.

The writer however does live some loose ends and the ending could have been a tad better. I mean the c...

After a long time a good action induced novel from an Indian Author

For a first time writer Juggi Bhasin does a wonderful job in making the characters come alive. The characterization of the 2 main protagonists is done in every detail possible with emphasis to the environment they are in. Suvir a.k.a the good guy is the hero and the one with dark pasts who is tra... (View complete review)
