Book: Poultry Production In Hot Climates (cabi) The poultry industry continues to expand in the warm regions of the world at a much faster rate than in temperate zones. Not only can it be quickly and easily developed in these hot climates but poultry meat and eggs can serve as important sources of animal protein in those areas of the world that have protein insufficiency.
Fully revised and updated, this new edition describes how the detrimental effects of heat stress can be reduced through the manipulation of housing, breeding, nutrition and management, and includes new contributions on controlled-environment housing, waterfowl, and breeding fast-growing broilers.
Book Reviews of Poultry Production In Hot Climates (cabi)
Intermittent Feeding Review by Dr. Fawwad AhmadPoultry Production in Hot Climate is a valuable book keeping in view the expansion of poultry in the warm regions of the World. In the chapter of Broiler Feeding and Management in Hot Climate, it is mentioned that intermittent lighting is potentially a sound practice for hot climate. Intermittent lighting is basically applied for intermittent feeding in environment controlled houses. Whereas, in hot regions of the World, birds are still kept in open sided houses where, intermittent feeding is not possible under the effect of intermittent lighting. To overcome this problem I developed an intermittent feeding system for open sided houses. This system can generate all types of feeding frequencies by physically up lifting the feeders. Furthermore, this system was applied to study the effect of intermittent feeding in hot and humid climatic condition and it was found that intermittent feeding during hot climatic condition and improves the feed efficiency and reduces the mortality due to heat stress as compare to continuous feeding and feed withdrawal system. I really appreciate the author for compiling such a valuable book for the poultry scientists and hope that this book will be a milestone for the further research in the field of Poultry Production in Hot Climate.
