Explains wonderfully the power of habits & how to manipulate it in our favour.

In this well researched book Charles Duhigg teaches us to recognize habit patterns. How are they formed? What FUELS habits? How to overcome the ones we want to give up? And thus he gives us the tools to change the habits that we'd so want to, but never seem to be able to.

The book is in three parts: Habits of an individual, habit patterns that work for organizations, habits of the society.

The first part is just SUPERB and that's where the major revelations are. The second part is very good for entrepreneurs & intrapreneurs. It offers some good advice on inculcating habits that would r...

The book is in three parts: Habits of an individual, habit patterns that work for organizations, habits of the society.

The first part is just SUPERB and that's where the major revelations are. The second part is very good for entrepreneurs & intrapreneurs. It offers some good advice on inculcating habits that would result in a positive domino effect, within an organization. But here I believe that we could've used a bit more insights + case studies. The third part is insightful, sure, but predominantly concentrates on social movements and how they come to be. I don't see myself turning Anna Hazare or Gandhi tomorrow so its not of much use to me!!

Written in a very lucid language and an engaging Gladwel-esque style, the book keeps you turning pages till the very end.

Like I said in my review of "What should I do with my life?" have a pencil and highlighter in the vicinity. It'll come in handy :)

Go for it.

Explains very well how we develop habits and what we can do with this knowledge

The power of habit is an outstanding book that explores how habits are formed and how the conscious mind is unable to often break habits.

The book is easy to read and a number of case studies have been presented like stories that engage the reader. The conclusions are supported by scientific evidence i.e, parts of the brain where habits are stored are different from parts where there is conscious memory.

The book also presents a framework of how to look at habits i.e., what drives the actions constiuting the habits and what craving or need does the habit satisfies.

In the later part of...

In the later part of the book, the author discuses the impact of habits on the strategies and business practices of companies. Example of Starbrucks is very interesting as to how the company combines its business objectives along with giving greater confidence and skills to its employess in handling customers.

People who enjoy reading about social psychology/ beahvioural economics will enjoy reading the book.

It holds some lab research article

Whatever is mentioned in the book is not much helpful in warding off habits. The book contains just some research articles carried out in some universities and some case studies only. This books is not for people who are planning to change their habits. May be it is helpful to those who do research in behavior or habits. No point in wasting money and time by reading this book.
