    • Growing up in Bihar through the troubled sixties and seventies, Hemant has witnessed turmoil from such close quarters, he feels he has looked into the bowels of the\n monster called violence. But in the same turmoil, he has come across character of extraordinary solidity—in men and women of ordinary means. Hemant says Prey By The Ganges has cooked in his mind for as long as he can remember.

    Gripping !

Gripping work and gory too . . . Loved the continuous imagery conjured up by the words of the gifted writer as the story unfolds in ones mind piece by piece . Will definitely be recommending " Prey by the Ganges" to my friends.

For a lover of fine fiction, this book is a bumper draw.

The best part about reading Prey By the Ganges is that a delicious anticipation has begun to build for the authors next book. In fact, cant wait for it!
I read the entire book in a day and went back to it for more. Vivid and descriptive the pages simply leap to life. The men, the women are fleshed out beautifully and I had difficulty deciding if I liked Gajanan more than Shambhu or was Ravi rather endearing. The author has a knack of getting under the skin of his characters and hence the read...

    Prey by the Ganges

Fantastic Characters - and a good revenge drama set in Bihar in 1948.
Thakur, serfs, a newly independent India & revenge. I approached the book with trepidation, i wasn't sure how a story set in that space and time, with those kind of emotions (revenge) would work in English. It does, and very well too... Thakur Gajanan Singh is a fantastic anti hero - charismatic, powerful and utterly immoral. Makes Gabbar Singh seem like a minor dada ... Etwari a fabulous character. Shambu - the hero, who ...

Prey by the Ganges: An Excellent Effort by a Debut novelist

For a first novel, the book has come out as unputdownable. Vivid and picturesque language. Shows the violence in Bihar just after independence when the old institutions were still alive. But have things really improved there after all these decades?
Those who love fiction this is a must. My heartiest congratulations to the writer.

    Excellent debut novel

Although I was intrigued by the summary of this book on Facebook, it was with a little reluctance that I finally started reading it: for some strange reason, I have never warmed up to Indian authors - this is an inherent flaw in my thinking and has nothing to do with the quality of Indian writing. However, it’s when I started reading this book that I realized I could not really put it down (cliché). I am a moderately fast reader and I go through a book this size in about 4-5 hours; I went thr...

    Woo! Awesome!

What a book! Worth every page turning thrill. I did feel a chapter or so cudv been trimmed but I also know the author HAD to build that part of the story. So, that is forgiven in a jiffy!
The characters in the book jump out at you. The violence is, well, VIOLENT and the sex in the book is classy! The places are described so well, I actually thought I heard the dark jungle in the book growl at me not just bristle. On the other hand...the Ganges is described beautifully as benevolent.
    The women...
