Jane Austen spins her most famous love story in Pride and Prejudice, a novel of manners.
Summary of the Book
An unpolished country girl, Elizabeth Bennet, is unused to the genteel class behavior. She encounters a handsome man named Fitzwilliam Darcy at a ball and takes him to be an arrogant man. Her belief is strengthened by the troubled relationship between Darcy’s friend and her sister. Yet, a series of comic events forces Elizabeth closer to Darcy, and she is completely smitten by him. This novel of manners pokes fun at the genteel society and life in the late eighteenth century.

Though the domain of Jane Austen’s novels was as circumscribed as her life, her caustic wit and keen observation made her the equal of the greatest novelists in any language. Born the seventh child of the rector of Steventon, Hampshire, on December 16, 1775, she was educated mainly at home. At an early age she began writing sketches and satires of popular novels for her family’s entertainment. As a clergyman’s daughter from a well-connected family, she had an ample opportunity to study the habits of the middle class, the gentry, and the aristocracy. At twenty-one, she began a novel called “The First Impressions” an early version of Pride and Prejudice. In 1801, on her father’s retirement, the family moved to the fashionable resort of Bath. Two years later she sold the first version of Northanger Abby to a London publisher, but the first of her novels to appear was Sense and Sensibility, published at her own expense in 1811. It was followed by Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), and Emma (1815).
After her father died in 1805, the family first moved to Southampton then to Chawton Cottage in Hampshire. Despite this relative retirement, Jane Austen was still in touch with a wider world, mainly through her brothers; one had become a very rich country gentleman, another a London banker, and two were naval officers. Though her many novels were published anonymously, she had many early and devoted readers, among them the Prince Regent and Sir Walter Scott. In 1816, in declining health, Austen wrote Persuasion and revised Northanger Abby, Her last work, Sandition, was left unfinished at her death on July 18, 1817. She was buried in Winchester Cathedral. Austen’s identity as an author was announced to the world posthumously by her brother Henry, who supervised the publication of Northanger Abby and Persuasion in 1818.

Evergreen Romantic Tale........ But FONTS are TOO SMALL(COLLINS)

Full of unforgettable characters!Though it might be hard to believe when you read it in today's age...this book was one of the early kinds of feminist literature that was written in England. Essentially, it is a love story but is definitely a satirical one. In bits autobiographical and very "English", this is a book that everybody should read at least once in their lifetime.

The Evergreen Tale Of love!!!!This fact is by now is universally acknowledged the Pride And Prejudice is one of d most gripping evergreen love story whose essence of love is still alive even after completing its 200th year this yr and will go on forever. i think you can relate this book to be the main base story for any love story with a bubbly heroine n an arrogant , egoistic, serious hero.

Review as a literature StudentThis is part of my syllabus and I've been searching for this book at low price from really long. Its Unabridged version which reduces chances of missing Jane Austen's super classy and romantic dialogue and even maintains my interest of entertainment. I saw previous comments regarding the font size. I've read other editions of the same novel costing 400bucks but with really small fonts but this is so apt. It has got perfect readable font size. Apart from that it has synopsis of the work and brief introduction about the author her life which is really nice.It has also got summary from each & eve… (Expand)

Buy a better print to enjoy fully.I would not like to comment on the content of the book here as its known to all that it is a masterpiece. But what I would certainly not want the readers to buy this edition/print of the book. It will ruin your experience. The print quality along with the paper quality is very poor and its not comfortable to read. Its like watching a super hit, blockbuster movie in a cheap third class movie theater.
