This heavily hyped movie was literally spectacular in terms of special effects, and the acting was quite good (although, I too have issues with Alba's accent). But the story defeated itself in trying to be too smart and too enigmatic simultaneously, as the no. of questions that remained unanswered were mind-bogfling. Perhaps the ending was deliberately ambiguous, indicating a sequel which might become another prequel to 'Alien', but I found that rather than trying to address some genuinely interesting aspects (which could have generateed a lot more horror & suspense) the film concentrated on gore. But the movie could have been a classic.
This movie is a must have specially if your a die hard fan of all the alien movies you've watched soo far over the years. I definitely enjoyed watching this movie on a blu-ray disc on my 60 inch Plasma television (LG) with family. It's time to add this movie in your archives collection. Go ahead treat yourself.
The Blu Ray is well mastered with a clean picture transfer. The 3-D effects are subtle however they did augment my viewing. As any movie watched with 3-D glasses, the 3-D version takes away a lot of details of the background in the dark scenes.
Sound is top notch with great atmosphere. The sound effects in the Alien ship, the silica storm, etc sound great on a good home theater system.
The movie itself might not be everyone's taste, I personally liked it very much. View it not as a prequel to Alien but as another story set in the Alien universe.
This will make a good test blu ray in anyone's collection.
This is one of those slow burner sci fi build ups that have a quiet start and build themselves into something yet keep trying to change the sequence of events. The end was terrible and it promises a sequel. I thought Michael Fassbender was "above" such films, I guess I was wrong. I didn't like it at all and thought it completely missed the mark. District 9, Another Earth and Rise of the Planet of Apes are some more balanced science fiction films for my money.
I liked the alien series and therefore had to see Prometheus as well. The movie has good characters and storyline and is gripping in screenplay and effects.
But there are so many unanswered questions that call for a sequel.
But then even in the original Alien series the origins were never truly explored.
All in all a good weekend watch...
