    Flipkart Official Review

Very few people make it big and very few people amongst them understand the importance of making it big and what took them to get there. Milkha Singh is one of those few. His life is almost rag to riches story – however with a lot of perseverance and hard work.
“The Race of my Life” just documents that hard work and brings it to readers in the form of a book and of course the movie, which most people must have watched. The book chronicles Milkha Singh’s life as a refugee, to his joining the Army, to finally becoming a world-class athlete.

The book is inspiring and at the same time makes you want to achieve a lot more. It makes you realize probably what you can be and do. The life of brilliance is captured here. Go read it.

An orphan, refugee and a man who considered becoming a dacoit found home in the Indian Army where he learned life had a different tale for him to follow. One ruled by speed, that of his legs. The Race of My Life is the story of a man called The Flying Sikh, the autobiography of Milkha Singh.

    Summary of the Book

Running is synonymous with the name Milkha Singh in India. After witnessing most of his family being killed in the violence that followed the India-Pakistan Partition, he lived with his sister. A short while in a refugee camp in Purana Quila followed by some time at a resettlement colony in Shadara, Delhi, led to Milkha realizing he was confused by life. Disillusioned by life, he considered becoming a dacoit but applied for the Indian Army under his brother’s persuasion. Four attempts later, he got in. It was during his posting at Secundrabad that he was introduced to athletics, and discovered his life’s true calling. A gold medal at the commonwealth games, and several Olympic games later, Milkha Singh was the stuff of legend. The Race of My Life is the story of an orphan who has been running all his life, and the face of Indian Sports for nearly forty years.

    About the Authors

Very simple book, yet a must read.

I have to admit that I am not a keen follower of sports and knew very little about Milkha Singh before this book. It was the movie that kindled my desire to know more about him and I landed on this book (always prefer to read first before watch it on screen). This book is very straight and to the point. I dint feel the pain when he actually missed the Rome Olympics, but it was very painful when he says Someone has to get the gold that I missed in Rome. His nobility is not in the medals he won...
