Ramayana - The Game of Life: Rise of the Sun Prince (Book 1), by Shubha Vilas, is the ancient literary masterpiece retold for modern audiences.

    Summary of the Book

This title is published as a part of the series of books that follows one ‘khand’ of Ramayana each, deciphering the eternal wisdom through gripping narrative and thought-provoking narration. The retold story and unfolded characters will leave your heart and mind open and make you contemplate on the bigger questions of life. The narrative in this title closely follows Valmiki’s Ramayana, delicately entwining with folk tales and striking analogies of the Kamba Ramayana. The first of the six-volume series, Rise of the Sun Prince takes you through the divine story of Rama from his birth up to his marriage. The book also recounts the tales of Dasaratha’s leadership, Vishwamitra’s pursuit of power and the enthralling tale of a little-known stone maiden.

    About Shubha Vilas

Shubha Vilas is a motivational speaker and a spiritual seeker. He helps top-level management in corporate firms through leadership seminars. He draws on the ancient spiritual texts like The Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharata and Ramayana, to help individuals deal with contemporary dilemmas of life.

Beautiful blend of intriguing story with Life Lessons or 'Sutras'

Best thing of book is 'Life Lessons' or 'Sutras' on almost every page, which help in relating the story with our own lives.

It is intact with the original epic, unlike other recent authors who change story according to their whims and fancies.
Presented in lucid manner, keeps reader bound.

"A good game is full of twists and turns at every stage and promises to thrill with its absolute unpredictability of results."

Waiting for next book to come :)

Beautifully written book. I have seen Ramayana 100 times but this book changed
my views about Epics. Beautiful explanations provided. Also things have been
broken down into many pieces so that people can understand it.
Lot of things which people never knew about Ramayana have been highlighted
    (like 353 wives etc)
Quotes will teach us lot of things like :-

"A good game is full of twists and turns at every stage and promises to thrill
    with its absolute unpredictability ...

Complexity of ideas and Simplicity of words!

...in my view, the above combination makes for rich literature.
The author forces your eyes to read laterally and vertically at the same time. Every incident has its parallel interpretation and insight as a footnote.

Book 1 , in a non-linear sequence goes through Rama's childhood up to his marriage. Delightfully , the latter half focuses on Vishwamitra. His repeated attempts, failures and sheer perseverance to become Brahmarishi is a beacon of hope for every person who loses heart at fail...

    Perfect mythology book.

This book is written very simply yet the narration is very exciting and perfect. You would love to know not only about Lord Rama but also about Vishwamitra and Dasaratha is detail. I loved the way Shubha Vilas has written notes and messages in the footer of the pages. Also the Laws discussed later on makes you a better person while reading the book itself. I am in awe of this book. It is just the part 1. The author can take us simply in a new world by the next 5 to come in the market. Lots of...

Everyone needs a hero to look up to and adore :-)

How do you tell a story which people think they already know? Difficult thing to do ain't it? But there is this magical realism in epics like The Ramayana which gives us something to ponder and discuss no matter how many times you read or hear it. In my case, every second story of Ajji was something to do with Lord Rama. All things right and wrong during childhood was taught in context with him. Obviously so, there was this natural tendency in me to read this rendition although I am not a vor...

A book that should be bought, read and gifted as well

Once I began reading the book I never wanted to stop. Some people consider Ramayana as mythology and some as purana which means history translated into English. This review is not about to which genre the book belongs. Rather its about why every one should have a personal copy of this and keep it as a guide to solve day to day problems. No matter what your belief system is you should read this book at-least once with an open mind. The author has simplified almost everything:

    1) You don't hav...

    Brilliant Insightful Retelling

This 6 part series is a must have for anyone! As someone who has been born and brought up in the country of the tales origin, I, probably like many others of a similar heritage got to experience only bits and pieces of the tale in the way it was passed down through generations, as each one voluntarily stripped it down into a dilute concoction of just a few adages, which prevailed only due to their situational use as a convincing parable served in the family for only conversational purposes. F...

    Mythology at it's best!

Amazing book. This is completely valid for everybody, for all ages. I am 17 myself and I loved it. There were so many incidents from this book that I didn't even know they existed in Ramayana. This book has everything (thrill, adventure, action, democracy, politics, violence, comedy, fun, values etc). A must read book and also my view has totally changed about the scriptures after reading this book. A very transparent interpretation of Ramayana simplified for the readers. Buy this book, get to know o...
