Book: Recalling The Fun Of The Movement From the late 1950s until the early 1960s, Americas old customs abruptly and deservedly changed. Afro-Americans bravely severed bonds of fear and defiantly marched while singing We Shall Overcome. Additionally, the federal government provided a latent protective shield and, consequently, Americans no longer viewed life through a glass darkly. In this story, youll be reminded of that dismal past when nervous warriors rebelled in search of correctness. Youll witness a disregard for failure and repudiation of fear through humor, joy and laughter. A native of High Point, North Carolina, I was that towns first black city firefighter, a retired magistrate, a former city councilman, and Mayor Pro-Tem, all made possible by the Civil Rights Movement. This memoir comes from my personal experiences. Cognizant of the somberness of the Movement, I sought not to minimize the effort, but rather to share rare jovial moments during those public civil struggles.
