Revolution 2020 is a gripping and fast paced novel about love, corruption and ambition. The story delves into the underbelly of a small town, Varanasi, and explores the various hues in the characters of the protagonists in it. Bhagat unearths the darker side of the education system, and for that matter, love too.
In the small and historic town of Varanasi in India, two boys Raghav and Gopal fall in love with the same girl, Aarti. Both of them are intelligent, ambitious and are the best of friends, but destiny has something else in store for them. One of them wants to use his intelligence to make a lot of money and the other wants to create a revolution; but again, their plans are disrupted by their love.
Gopal hails from a poor family and fails to get an admission to the best engineering colleges in the country. Heartbroken, he moves to Kota for a year to prepare for the exams. Raghav comes from a well-to-do family and achieves a good rank in JEE. Delighted, he joins IIT-BHU, one of the premier institutes of India, and embarks on his ambition to become a journalist. Aarti hails from a powerful bureaucratic family, and her aim is to become an airhostess. Aarti falls in love with Raghav while Gopal is at Kota.
The story starts when Gopal rises as the director of a new engineering college opened in Varanasi, with the power of MLA Shukla, a corrupt politician. He uses the legally strangled land of his uncle to manipulate and build the college. Raghav, on the other hand, completes his engineering and joins the largest selling newspaper Dainik as an intern. He starts shedding light on all the wrongdoings of Shukla and exposes him in public.
Things take a different turn when Aarti starts developing a soft corner for Gopal.
Who will win her love towards the end?
Will Raghav's crusade against the corrupt system fail?
Revolution 2020 is a gripping story of love, the corrupt educational system and clashing ambitions.
Revolution 2020 got mixed reviews from critics and readers. The book turned out to be yet another bestseller from the Chetan Bhagat stable.

or is it? i write this review as a Chetan Bhagat fan. you expect a certain amount of intelligence from him. Revolution 2020 is a huge disappointment. firstly, as I suspect, the title of the book was given solely because when the pre-booking first started, the country was brimming with patriotism and revolutionary emotions due to Anna Hazare's movement. Otherwise, there is absolutely no reason to name the book that, as there is almost no role of Revolution 2020 in the storyline!
normally Chetan Bhagat's books are funny. i remember, in almost all his previous books, there would be a line after every few pages that would make me stop reading for a moment and laugh! Revolution 2020 lacks this as well. the story is perpetually depressing, you just keep waiting for "good times" to happen, which when seem to be approaching, are stopped by a ridiculous twist.
personally, i didn't like the book at all.
Yes, he got India reading. And lots of Indians writing and publishing houses brimming in Dharavi! Personally, I have nothing against the style of the guy, it rather being real trash. There is no growth of writing prowess since his first book;seems rather interested in the movie adaptation of the book and I dont think thats why books should be written. The story is very predictable, few flavours taken out the 'Chanakya Chant' and B grade movies. The recommendations in the foreword are as plain as the book itself and Mr Bhagat seems to have rushed through the book. His previous book was witty and by the heart. This unfortunately is depressing and mostly 'loserly' - a term Mr Bhagat seems to use very often in the book. And for once, dear Mr Bhagat, we would love references outside IIM and IIT. There is a world beyond those institutions and Im hoping you grow out of it. Just to add, I couldnt put myself through the entire book! I rather not rate it!
With lots of hopes ,i'd ordered this book.Once booked i kept keeping a check on the shipping !! once received ,i'v read the book immediately ,but it was a huge turn off!! Even still i am confused ,what he was trying to say. is it that true love will be a failure or only professionally successful people are worthy of it or girls dont have brains to think and they will easily bounce to anyone anytime??:( ...CB had given a greater blow now..his two books one night at call center and 3 mistakes were also pathetic ,and thats when he came up with an excellent "two states" and now again his graph is dipping low!!the book jus sounded like any bollywood triangular love story!! nothing grt..
Mr. Chetan Bhagat, you can definitely make friends out of enemies..... The moment I opened the package and started reading "Revolution 2020" I'm attached to it; The way you pull us into your world is what makes you Special....Kiddies Intro is so cute!!!!! Seldom we find writers who possess such magic in India.... and Thank You for making 'India' READ!!!!!!!!
Flipkart: If you were a guy I would have kissed you!!!! Hehehe... You all @ Flipkart are amazing! Chetan tweeted some 700 people from Flipkart were delivering this book today and I'm bowled!!!
Substanceless.. No Good.. Cliche'd.. run-of-the-mill story.. i want full refund of the money i paid for this book.. i don't even want to bother to rate the book.. but the site does'nt accept review if rating is not given.. so i m giving it a 1 star rating.. despite the fact that it deserves no star at all.. i found reading the book a waste of my precious time and would seriously appreciate a full refund of money..
