Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! is a book in which Robert Kiyosaki shares the secrets of increasing one’s financial independence and financial intelligence.

Summary Of The Book

In the book Rich Dad Poor Dad: What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! Robert Kiyosaki advocates financial independence through owning businesses, investing, and real estate. He also talks about increasing one's financial intelligence.

What makes somebody rich? Is it hard work that matters the most? Or does one need to make the right financial decisions at the right time to be rich? This book answers these questions with the help of six easy to apprehend learn lessons. Written in the style of a set of parables, it is based on the real life of the author. Robert Kiyosaki takes the reader to his own childhood that he spent in Hawaii.

He promotes the philosophy of wealth creation and emphasizes on purchasing income generating assets. To prove his point, he offers real life examples and relates his own story in which he had two people who influenced him the most. One was his real father – an educator who worked hard to make money, and the other was his father’s best friend – a real estate tycoon who is the Rich Dad of the book and is extremely successful.

His biological father, the Poor Dad of the story, bought consumer goods for his family’s satisfaction and had to remain financially dependent for his entire life. The Rich dad, on the other hand, used his money to create more money-making assets. And this is the attitude that the author highlights throughout the book and says is the basic difference between the poor and the rich.

He values the ownership of high value assets more than being just an ordinary employee. He provides a new look at an old financial mindset. This book claims to teach people how to become rich without requiring a high income and take control of one’s financial future.

The book remained on The New York Times paperback ‘advice’ chart for 100 weeks. It has sold more than 26 million copies. Robert Kiyosaki, a millionaire himself, teaches what kids need to be taught about money and how even poor parents train their kids to be rich someday!

Being a Billionaire isn't That Difficult!

Having money doesn't make you a Millionaire, the financial literacy you have makes you a Millionaire. This book takes you to the depth of the attitude of the people towards money. If you want to get out the rat race, difference between asset and liability, financial literacy!! This book is the end to your search.
This book is a gateway towards a simple fundamental of how to make money work for you.
I think the author should have given some more lights on the way towards the investment and establishing a corporation.
Always pay yourself first with whatever you have! He means it all to say.

Good personal finance book

I am a big fan of Rob's mission of spreading financial literacy. He does provide great emphasis on savings & investments in this book. It should be a mandatory reading for everyone specially those in schools and colleges. You would be amazed to find how our understanding of assets and liabilities is so screwed up. His thoughts are eyeopeners for everyone. Buy assets NOT liabilities!!
BTW I am not sure whether people can become rich following his tips, but they can definitely become more financially responsible and not fall into debt trap.

However, some of his investment philosophies are more suitable for folks in the US because real estate as an investment is a very different product in India. In the US investors buy real estate for rental income however in India people mostly buy real estate for capital appreciation. Reason being in India real estate hardly gives 3% return on investment while in the US it could be as high as 8-12%. Also tax structures mentioned in this book are very specific to the US.

The key takeaways from this book is developing investments & savings as a habit, avoiding debt traps such as personal loans, credit cards etc.

Must read for everyone!

The value of every book depends on how much you learn and apply from it. In this book Robert has tried the best to lay a concrete foundation of financial literacy in the minds of everyone using simple layman language. The earlier you read the better this book will be for You. It throws light on simple formulas for gathering wealth.
This book is for all those people who BELIEVE THAT STUDYING HARD, STUDYING MORE, WORKING HARD AND WORKING MORE will ensure them great wealth. This belief is false. Find out the truth. Go fetch a copy!!

A Must read for those who are not Rich.

I was recommended this book when I joined one of network marketing business and a system for it. Although I did not succeed in that business, this book has given me totally different vision to look at how money works.

When I read this book and then looked at my life and world, it gave me totally different view, you can say it opened my eyes. For example, when I was new, I worked for a dentist who earned millions, paid us few thousands and he did not work by himself, we worked for him. His dental practice was actually his business... !!! I am saying this as successful dentist, but what has...

I am saying this as successful dentist, but what has been said in this book, and another book, " Cashflow Quadrant " is true all over world and applies more perfectly in India even at this time.

Rich men need not read this boom as they are groomed in their family. But must read for all those who are not rich.

Note that, this is not about money making tricks, but it shows you the way to look at your money and life. And this is only basic book to start with.

Aspects I like Personally, I like this book because it explains the need for financial literacy and explained the concepts in a very fundamental level .This book are not just about the money but how we are trained to think. The author is successful in explaining these concepts by giving us the scene of action, than lecturing in a formal manner .This book teaches that for an individual to be wealthy, he must work to possess t... Aspects I like Personally, I like this book because it explains the need for financial literacy and explained the concepts in a very fundamental level .This book are not just about the money but how we are trained to think. It helped in looking things differently. The most important part I found in this is not to work for money but to work for learning. The author is successful in explaining these concepts by giving us the scene of action, than lecturing in a formal manner .This book teaches that for an individual to be wealthy, he must work to possess the system than working for it. I think this might be one of the reasons why my “start-up” friend find it so intriguing. This book motivated me to direct most of my income(Of course ,when I get a job) in investing than spending on unnecessary items, trying to impress people.
Aspects I don’t like This book in a way discourages formal education. I agree that financial education is necessary but the sole intention of Education is gaining common sense. Without formal education and just with knowledge based on experience I don’t think we can achieve success. Let us consider a natural disaster like Earthquake, The one with formal education (Poor Dad) knows the precautions to be taken whereas the Rich Dad panics (as he has never experienced such situation before). This book gives just the motivation and advice to learn from failure and work hard but he made everything sound so easy about the shares and assets. Correlating to what I have learnt so far, As a civil engineering student, I have done a course on Cost Estimation and Construction Management where we learnt that any project’s progress is dependent on many factors and the project will be success only when all the critical factors are met .Similarly for a proper understanding of the assets, shares and investments he should possess sound knowledge in lot of skills. Risk factor in shares and investments are not mentioned properly. I don’t have much knowledge in shares but there is this 9/10 start-up rule which says 9 out of 10 start ups fail. Rich dad brags about underpaying his employees and making his employees to wait for long hours sounded really cruel. Also he keeps on talking about how lame the people who took their job serious and asks to get out of the “Rat Race” and in lesson 6 he described the employees as hamsters. Throughout the book “Rich dad” used catchy phrases like “Don’t work for money, make money work for you.” and so on. If everyone thinks like Rich Dad then there would be no experts in any field. There won’t be any Scientists like Einstein or Tesla.
Considering the aspects I like and do not, I like to rate this book based on the Fundamentals of topic, Interactive methods adopted in teaching, Truth in the topic, Dimensions (Brightness of the Paper, Size, Division of Chapters) and Price. I like to give 3/5
