  • Description

The Rig Veda contains translations of a few selected verses from the Rig Veda.

    Summary Of The Book

The Rig Veda, is a translation of selected hymns from the ancient composition.

The Rig Veda is the oldest of the four Vedas, the Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva. It is the oldest religious composition, the oldest of Sanskrit hymns, and is still studied and recited by Hindus during religious rituals.

The Rig Veda, thousands of years old, gives a picture of not just the religious life of the people, but also a glimpse into the cultural and social circumstances of that time. These poetic compositions explore many things besides rituals and mythology.

The Vedas explore the origin of the world, the environment, the life of people, and codes for life. They contain prayers to Gods, stories of various Gods like Varuna, Indra, Mitra and Soma, besides the Adityas and Rudras, among others.

The intricately beautiful compositions have always been handed down through oral traditions rather than being written down. There are many ways of reciting the Vedas, different for memorization, and for recitation in rituals.

The Rig Veda is divided into ten books known as Mandalas. The Vedas do not have a single author, the verses were composed by many different Rishis, and so they are a compilation of various styles and not a uniform composition.

The ten Mandalas contain various hymns addressed to many Gods, and some of the Mandalas are noted for the very important verses they contain, significant to Hindu culture through the ages.

The third Mandala contains the important Gayatri Mantra. The fifth Mandala contains the valakilya hymns. The tenth Mandala contains the Nadistuthi Suktha, in praise of the sacred rivers, and the Purusha Sukta. It also contains the Nasadiya sukta which pertains to creation.

The Rig Veda, contains selected verses from the ten books, with translations and the authors notes containing her interpretations, based on these verses, on the social and cultural situation of the times.

    Stupid, blasphemous book!!

The author is a stupid sleazy American girl who probably wrote this while being done in her erotic fantasies. This girl doesn't even know Sanskrit. You won't believe what they popularize in west on Vedic granths. The author makes Veda into asex book with her stupid interpretation on the name of creative freedom. This is the same author who claims in her writing that the ahimsa practiced by Jainism is a animistic, ritual taboo of shamans. According to her writings, ahimsa is practiced in India...

    Not even Close...

The author has no knowledge "Nirukta" and "Nighantu" which are the prerequisites of even trying to give an exposition to the vedic Samskrit.its unfortunate that we as Indians have to rely on such commentaries of the veda, no doubt the world thinks ancient Indians believed and practiced mumbo jumbo(after reading such texts) with dating done by Indologists who believed that creation happened in 4000BC(biblical chronology), "Soma was a drink"! such a shame that such commentaries of the veda are ...

    Worthless, As expected

Interpreted scriptures are always this bad. VEDAS are not for sale it is called "smriti", as 'written' things can be mis-represented , but if you sharing a view that will hardly changed.
Please do not buy this. If you want to learn VEDAS, get a guru, and learn Sanskrit First.
Veda means knowledge, to get this supreme knowledge you must learn SANSKRIT.

Another mind fest of a perverted mind!

Seems like Western authors still think that noon western people are animals and so is their books. The infamous author, whose books were rightly burned and banned in India is at her twisted best here. She is the same infamous author who claimed Shivaji the great Maratha as a militant and extremist terrorist. Her deep hatred for India is again visible here when she interprets vedic rhymes as mumbo jumbo of drunk tribals after drinking the hallucinogenic drink Soma. Not to be outdone, she has...

    A very good book

It seems to be an intelligent and scholarly selection and translation of verses from The Rig Veda. It is the sort of book that make one think and is also often a delight.
