Rudra (English, Paperback, Chitgopekar Nilima)
Rudra: The Idea of Shiva is a mythical biography written by Nilima Chitgopekar.
Summary of the Book
This book explains the issues of caste, gender, concept of God, and politics of religions in the Indian society. Shiva is one divine being among many other important signifiers of Indian culture, dance, music, asceticism, phallicism, Vedanta, and the rich institution of heterodoxy and acculturation. Rudra: The Idea of Shiva is a well-researched endeavour to decipher the god-concept called Shiva. The author traces the evolution of Shiva from a deity in Vedic times to an icon in the post-Vedic ages. The history behind the idea of Shiva is connected to larger social-historical realities. The book also subtly describes the relationship between the iconic Shiva and Hinduism.
