More than a building or an organisation, World Trade Centre brings together business and government agencies involved in international trade, provides essential trade services and stimulates the economy of the region serves.

The Mumbai World Trade Centre (WTC) is promoted by M. Visvesvaraya Industrial Research & Development Centre (MVIRDC), established in 1970 as a non-profit company licensed under section 25 of Indian companies Act, with an objective to organise, promote, conduct research in international trade, technology and markets. Affiliated to the World Trade Centres Association, New York since 1971 MVIRDC WTC is the only regular and operation World Trade Centre in India, offers verious services and infrastructure facilities to promote international trade.

As part of its ongoing research and development activities, MVIRDC has completed several sectoral as well as issue based studies for the development of Indian trade and industry - both in the immediate national context and in the larger international milieu.

About the Author
C. Satapathy is a Member of the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal. Previously he was a Commissioner of Customs in Mumbai. He has represented India at the WTO negotiations on Rules of Origin during 1996-2001. He was Vice-Chairman of the Technical Committee on Rules of Origin in Brussels and has chaired plurilateral discussions on Chemicals and Textiles Rules of Origin in Geneva.

He has over 45 publications on Customs and International Trade topics to his credit including two books on Customs Valuation.
