Book Summary of Sam Walton: Made In America

Meet a genuine American folk hero cut from the homespun cloth of America's heartland: Sam Walton, who parlayed a single dime store in a hardscrabble cotton town into Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world. The undisputed merchant king of the late twentieth century, Sam never lost the common touch. Here, finally, inimitable words. Genuinely modest, but always sure if his ambitions and achievements. Sam shares his thinking in a candid, straight-from-the-shoulder style.

In a story rich with anecdotes and the "rules of the road" of both Main Street and Wall Street, Sam Walton chronicles the inspiration, heart, and optimism that propelled him to lasso the American Dream.

A good book.. written from the heart

A very refreshing narrative by the founder of WalMart regarding his career and the founding of WalMart. There is no doubt that he wrote it by baring his heart and in incredible detail which is very good. However the constant quotes by the other employees/managers/competitiors/family members break the narrative but they also sometimes provide a further insight into the situation described by Sam.Also it sometimes looks as though Sam is praising himself though he claims not to do so. But it may just be my view. to sum it up, i'd say - buy it.

Sanctimony,All Over.

When reading an autobiography of a highly successful person, one thing that I always look forward to is the weak points or those humane or mortal stuffs in the individual's life that may have pushed him back and then his ways to combat all those and rise as a winner.

But sadly, in this book Walton has just enunciated his success story, backed all his decisions which forces me to think that if he's a man or a robot who was programmed to do all the right stuffs. Its a tale of sanctimony from a man who backs all his ugly decisions as well.

Nowhere close to Jack Welch's or Job's biography.

a good and interesting read

Simple, honest and interesting! Sam wanton narrates all his experiences along with supportive memoirs from his colleagues and family. His story tells us of how simply innovative ideas can change the course of events and become revolutionary.
Also it's a must read in the backdrop of coming of wal-mart in India.Just go for it!
