The fastest SD card

Note: The read/write speed of a memory card depends on the camera hardware and the type of USB port used.

I am using this SD card in my Nikon D7100. The average uncompressed (14 bit) RAW file produced by my camera is around 30MB at full resolution (24MP). This card writes 3 RAW files per second in Continuous Shooting (burst) mode after my camera buffers fills up. That translates to a write speed of 90MB/s.

When I transfer the photos from the camera to my PC, I don't get the full read speed ...

I *heart* SanDisk

I've been using SanDisk's top of the line (Extreme III, then Extreme Pro) SD cards since 2007 and I've never had one let me down. This card gave me 72.5 MB/s writes and 84 MB/s reads on my laptop's SD Card slot, which is impressive.

I bought the 8GB 95 MB/s card last month for better burst performance with my Nikon D7100 while shooting 14-bit lossless RAWs. Grabbed this 16GB variant as soon as it became available with WS Retail since their prices seem to be the lowest among options.

One thi...

Great Speed & Processing

this card is brilliant if you want to boost your read/writing speed.

However, if you put it on cameras like D3000, Canon 1000D then you will notice only slight difference because even though the memory card is extremely fast, the Camera buffer and image processor might be slow.
Although, it will slightly improve the speed when you shoot frames on continuous mode.

But mid range cameras like 5D mark II, D7000, D90 where the processor is much better to compensate the speed of the memory card, ...

Fast but expensive

Bought this (Extreme Pro 95MB/s) for my Fuji XE-1 camera. Got a good deal Rs 4990/- .
Earlier I was using Sandisk Ultra (30MB/s) which used to take 4.5s to save a RAW+JPG file into the card. With this, the time has reduced to 2.2 s.
This is less than what I would expect from a card which is 3X faster as per spec.
Then I figured than camera takes 2s to process each image + a write time for 30MB of data.
It may be better of using Sandisk extreme (45MB/s) card as it is half the price and could g...

Excellent product, but make sure that you really need the speed!

Excellent product and reliable delivery. In fact, it's the only product that has this god writing speed. However, given the price, just make sure that you actually need this speed.

I bought it for the camera. Assuming that the camera gives say, 6 fps speed; you are shooting raw with average file size of say 15MB; and that the camera has say, 3 seconds of buffer - you actually will need this card (rather than Extreme version!) if you are shooting continuously for more than 6-7 seconds!

If I ...

BEAT THE HELL OUT OF ULTRA.....

I have Nikon D5200 and the performance of my camera has improved tremendously just by changing a memory card.So yes the performance of your camera greatly depends on the memory card used.I suggest to buy the fastest card your camera can support.

Sandisk ultra(free with the camera):
30 sec- 17 raw files (burst mode)
Took 28 sec writing time.

Sandisk Extreme PRO:
30 sec- 81 raw files(burst mode)
49 sec writing time.
17 raw files written in 10 sec...
The raw files(24 MB compressed 14bit Raw) a...

Confusion about speeds

Some people have reported they get only upto 9 Mbps and not 95 MBps as claimed.

Speeds usually written by companies for SD cards or network equipments are in
Mega Bits per seconds,

what you see when copying file is
Mega Bytes per seconds.

Mega Bytes per seconds = Mega Bits per seconds / 8
For e.g. 95 Mega Bits/s = (95/8) 11.8 Mega Bytes ps

Therefore on a computer you will never see speeds of more than 11.8 Mega Bytes per second for this card.
This is however very fast compared to cheaper...
