When you are just nineteen years old and doing time in Hong Kong's young offenders' prison, you realize that dreams can turn into disaster. Sand, surf, sun, and peace: that was the dream when Sharm headed for Asia. The balmy climate, the prospect of new friendships with fellow carefree souls who came from everywhere for an open-ended holiday-Surely this was a ticket of escape from her dad's cold shoulder and the bullies who stripped her confidence. Adulthood and its shackles, for now could come later. For Sharm, there was Red, with his inviting smile and wild ideas, and there was cocaine, which seemed completely harmless. But then, so did Chinese heroin, until it became a master without a conscience. Addiction, it turns out, doesn't make exceptions for good intentions.
