Pathetic. These drives are failing massively. No reliability at all. The higher the capacity the more the chances of the drive failing. And with one year warranty you'll not just lose the hard drive but 3 TB of your data as well.
Biggest face palm moment in the history of hard drives.
this is the best HDD in the history of Mankind
it is best with solid 7200 RPM , 64 MB cache
and have 3 quantity of 1 TB platters
best with UEFI BIOS in modern motherboard
but also support old ones
solid gaming performance and rocking I/O data transfer rate
and better in access time
Hi guys, I am using this hardisk from past one and a half month. I purchased this drive to replace my old WD 1 TB Green, 640 GB blue, 500 GB Blue and Barracuda 500 GB.
This drive gave me more performance and stability than what I have expected.
I am getting a avg write speed of 140 MB/s and read speed of 150 MB/s.
This drive won't take much time to spin up from idle state.
Very good performer.
I am using this drive only for data storage, I have not installed any OS.
I have been using WD Caviar Black 2TB since Oct 2010 as a boot drive, but the Seagate 3TB simply exceeds the 2TB performance by at least 10-15%. Max read speeds approach 200 MB/s compared with 150 MB/s.
So if you have a UEFI BIOS and windows 7 x64 which supports booting from > 2.2TB drive, this may be the fastest mechanical drive to be used as a boot device. SSDs are a different matter altogether.
As I have a SSD as a boot device, I am using it as a storage device for some backups which require quicker access.
Major negatives are warranty duration and Seagate's habit of sending refurbished disks in case your purchase goes bust during their warranty period.
Well, I'm bit late writing this review as I had bought this device probably in June 2012. Flipkart delivered it right on time with necessary documents. Sadly enough, it turned out to be faulty!! It was constantly making clicking noise on boot and was never detected by BIOS or Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Contacting Flipkart and getting it replaced seemed more of a hassle and flurry of phone calls and e-mail exchanges. I was assembling a monster Desktop so I couldn't wait. Also, I can't remember whether this Transit Insurance replacement thingy was present back then. Seagate repaired the drive after checking purchase documents. Took me 21 days! So much for hurrying, hah! Since then the HDD has worked well till now and I'm also planning to buy another soon. Hope this time things go well. I'm a Seagate fan and I would suggest that you do not go by the fad of 'more warranty' as WDs are projecting comparing themselves to Seagate. Seagate has gone down on Internal HDD Warranties, yes, it has but stayed up on Warranties of External HDDs as compared their WD counterparts. So, are they making good externals and compromised internals? That just can't be. Take Seagate.
PS: Despite having UEFI enabled motherboard, I couldn't install Windows 7 x64 to my 3 TB. i don't know why. I am using it as storage space. Ha ha!
