465 GB instead of 500 GB / Binary V. Decimal Capacity
The Seagate External HDD isn't showing the wrong capacity, it's just how the capacity is figured. All drive manufactures figure the drive capacity using decimal measurements, as where all most all OS's figure the drive capacity using binary measurement. Therefore, even though you have a 500GB drive (decimal), when you plug it into your PC it only see's it as 465GB (binary).

USB 3.0 Awareness Campaign
No doubt this a good hard-disk, but mind you, this doesn't have USB 3.0 support. So, if you have a USB 3.0 support in your laptop or desktop, or likely to have in near future, you are missing a great deal here.
USB 3.0 is ten times faster than USB 2.0
Seagate currently (at the time of posting this review) have no hard disk with out-of-box USB 3.0 support. Some Seagate models however work with USB 3.0 with the help of additional attachment.
You can consider buying Western Digital(WD) Hard Disc Drive(HDD). It has USB 3.0 support, but is priced slightly higher. The WD HDD can be found here:

Also note:
** USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0, meaning USB 3.0 devices will work on USB 2.0 ports(as well as USB 1.0), but USB 3.0 transfer speed can only be attained on USB 3.0 ports.
** And if you have bought a desktop or laptop recently, it is very likely to have USB 3.0 ports for your USB devices.
