Book Summary of The Secret Of The Nagas & The Immortals Of Meluha (set of 2 books)

'The Secret of the Nagas' and 'The Immortals Of Meluha' is a set of two books that form the first two-part beginning of the Shiva trilogy. The first part 'The Immortals Of Meluha' is set in a time when Shiva wasn't a God; as the story unfolds, Shiva is hailed as a protector for the residents of Meluha. But will he live up to it?

The second part 'The Secret Of The Nagas' takes the tale further to the era where Shiva is deemed as a God. But, the evil forces are back to seek revenge. Read the book to experience the feel of the racy and spine chilling adventures that lay ahead.

Summary of the Book

The Secret Of The Nagas and The Immortals Of Meluha are the first two parts of the Shiva trilogy. These books belong to an entirely new genre of Indian novels because of the mythological- fiction theme.

The Immortals of Meluha is set in 1900 BC. This is the story of a man whom legends hailed as God. What modern Indians know as the Indus Valley Civilization was previously known by its residents as the region of Meluha. This was the near perfect civilization built by Lord Ram, who was considered to be one of the greatest monarchs ever lived; until doom befell the kingdom and the Chandravanshis allied up with the gruesome Nagas to attack Meluha mercilessly. All this, until 'the savior', Shiva, comes to the civilization.

Is he really the savior? Can the residents of Meluha avert this tragedy? This is a story of the times when Shiva was a man, who would be later deemed as God. The second book in this series is The Secret of the Nagas, which is set 4000 years after that of The Immortals of Meluha.

The gruesome Naga warrior has assassinated his friend Brahaspati and now haunts his wife Sati. Shiva is the destroyer of evil and he won't rest till he figures out his adversary. This book takes you on an epic journey throughout the entire country as Shiva endlessly tries to trace down the culprit; only to later find out that he has been betrayed by his own advisors.

With the forces of dark manipulating his every move, will Shiva be able to rescue Meluha again? Will he be able to unmask the shrewd puppeteer? This book is filled with unbelievable revelations and mysteries.

Writing Style

Amish unfolds the concept of Karma and reincarnation in his books with succinct ease. His style of penning down instances is gripping and makes a compelling read. The depiction of Shiva's intoxicating dumru and chillum is spine chilling and gives you a taste of his intensity.

One of the best

The shiva trilogy is one of the best books I have read. As the reviews of the book says "A definite page turner". When u start reading it u wont even knew when u reached the next page. The story is so paced that its not too fast nor too slow, just right that u ll keep on reading and end up cursing everyone who interrupts u.
The trilogy consist of 3 books
1. The immortals of Meluha
2. The Secret of the Nagas
3. The oath of the Vayuputhras
The story is about Shiva, who was once a normal fierce warrior of his clan, whom legend turned into a god in the hindu mythology.
Eagerly waiting for the third one...

Great Service, Refreshing Read

First things first, Flipkart is awesome... It was my first order from FK and with the safety net of COD. The books came in 2 days, all nicely packed. Now I buy more regularly with prepayment options.
About the books, both of them are a refreshing read... kinda Indian LOTR. I liked the first book more than the second. Found the story line a little too simplistic for my taste, would have preferred a little more complexities and layers to the characters. However, Amish Tripathi has done a commendable job of making mythology racy and totally believable. All in all, a good read. Waiting tho catch the 3rd installment in the series.

Bhoom Shiva!

In college my grass head bong (bengali for those who don't know) friends used to reverentially call on the name of Shiva before sucking in on weed. I found it kind of funny and thought it was some crutch to legitimacy for smoking pot.

The Immortals of Meluha gives the back story to the reverence. The crutch may have been a figment of my imagination....or not...

Amish Tripathi's trip into the myths of history, reimagining Shiva, is immensely enjoyable and a fast paced, gripping read. Except for the occasional technical glitch of faltering on 'show don't tell' which is something only a writer will care about you will have a whale of a time.

I went from Immortals to Nagas at a breakneck, un-put-downable pace, and was left thirsting for the final part of the trilogy.

This book ploughs through the crusted layers of ancient history and revives Shiva in a fresh perspective. A breath of fresh air coasting down from the Himalayas. Breathing life back into Hinduism (the science, not the religion)....this is but the beginning....

Okay I am tripping now...no pot but... :)

awesome flow

Dear all, Earlier When I chose these two books to read I was a little skeptical of Lord Shiva being personified. However to decipher a truth one has to go through it, this thinking compelled me read these books though reluctantly. As I proceeded my journey I was simply awestruck with the flow of thoughts and amazing use of philosophy, Ancient history, history, geography, science, military science, mythology etc. I am sure author or some of his family member is/was connected to our proud Armed Forces. actually after reading about 50 pages i started listening to it and such is the narrative power Of Amish. Both the books are worth a listening. To assure that it does not hurt our emotional feeling, so deeply attached to Lord Shiva. Eagerly awaiting the 3rd book in the Shiva Trilogy," Oath of Vayuputras". Amish keep writing such wonderful narratives.

Where angels fear to tread

The author deserves to be congratulated for a brilliant exposition of one of the basic truths of spirituality while charting an independent route away from the mythical path.

God is within. The hero Shiva is portrayed as a mortal human being but with outstanding leadership qualities, an incisive and analytic mind that does not go by blind faith or superstition but has a penchant for getting at the truth without prejudice or bias. Compassion for friends and victims of falsehood is another quality which stands out.

In essence, is God a resident in Heaven equipped with immortality and possesses powers beyond comprehension?

In contrast, Shiva is one among us who does not get swayed by instant benediction of Godhood by others but stays firm with his outstanding qualities. It is not Neelkanth that makes him God but his innate inequalities and self-actualization. Kudos to the Author for throwing open the door to Divinity for anyone.
