For years now, i have been trying to find the perfect headphones for my ipod, earphones that will give a clear sound, sufficient amplification and comfortable for long journeys.
My take on Sennheiser HD 201: -
The sound quality is the best in its price range. Given the Indian market that flipkart predominantly delivers too, where the cost plays a significant role, these headsets try to make it a good compromise between sound quality and the cost. The cost, being just over 1000, makes it a good investment. 2 years warranty ensures that the headsets will last atleast that amount of time.
Compared to the other cheap stuff in the Indian markets viz. Intex or Panasonic, Sennheiser is definitely more viable and credible. Some Sony headphones might be an equally good purchase, but the brand once again stands out in the "audiophiles" fraternity.
However, this is not a headphone for an "audiophile". The bass is clear unlike a lot of other headphones, but for bass bossting HD 202s seem to be a better purchase.
The durability of these headphones haven't been tested yet since it has been only 3 weeks since I have them.
The comfort with these headphones, however is an issue. I cannot go for over 90 minutes without removing them and letting my ear cool down. Also, the cord length makes it very inconvenient for ipods.
So to sum it up, to listen to music while working, programming etc, these headphones seem to be the best. They force you to take a break once in every 75-90 minutes and the sound quality and isolation from the outer world while listening to pleasant sounds is incredible. However if your focus is to hear music on the go, especially on bikes, you should look at other alternatives. Sony seems to be providing excellent earphones for those purposes.
PS:- Flipkart's service is par excellence. I had ordered in on a Wednesday (evening) and it was handed to me on Friday (morning). I guess this was because I was opposite flipkart's office in Bangalore. However, the experience with Flipkart so far has been an excellent one.
just bought today....its rocking....
pros: grt sound (suuround) n ur ear is safe.
cons: its size.
for whom: for audiphiles n crazy ones
and thks to FLIPKART- best site i came across...
I bought these last November for over 2000 bucks from Reliance Digital. I did not buy it from Flipkart but, since I have used them for long I thought of reviewing them.
To start off with, these are gaming headphones. If you are a gamer the bass from the game will amaze you. The sound is completely different if you put on these from the other normal headphones. The bass is really great and adds a new dimension to the sounds.
These are ultra light and you can put on these for hours and stay cut off from the real world. Noise cancellation is also good with these. I play for hours, and I have no idea what is going on in the room next to me.
About Output now, if you are expecting that the output will be great and blow your minds off, then you might be disappointed. The output is optimal, not loud. Your ears will be safe with these on.
The cable is also 3m long, which is pretty long keeping in mind the gaming purpose of the headphones.
Overall, I am satisfied. If you want to listen to loud music don't buy these, buy Sony you will get louder sound in just 500 bucks. These have good sound, good bass, with optimal and not very loud sound. The best part is clarity. Cheers. :)
To start with I am not an audiophile, but definitely one with an 'ear for quality' ;)
Build:
Very good build quality if you ignore that its made of plastic. The headrest comes with a cushion.
The headphones are AroudEars(AE) type, which is really an advantage and very comfortable to wear.
Even though I use for continuously long hours I never encountered the warming issue, as reported in many reviews on the internet.
Audio Performance :
The headphones from the prestigious Sennheiser really scored well for clarity. They create an acoustic space around your ears.
Treble : Very good rendering. You will not hear cracking even at very high volumes. Some vocals does seem a little shrill.
Bass : Not its forte. As claimed the bass is rich and crisp but you will have a *hard time* noticing it.
***These headphones are better for watching movies than enjoying your bass driven music like grunge or hip hop.
So definitely not for bass-heads.

I mostly watch movies with this headphone and really satisfied with its performance.
I am the proud owner of Senn's Hd 201. I've used them for a week now, and would like to share my opinion on these.
This set isn't my first set of headphones, and I know that one can get headphones of better bass, treble, etc. I was intending to buy the Philips Shp2700 before this, but as the model turned obsolete, I purchased its only competitor for my price range.
To put it simply for those who intend to buy/not buy, I thought I'd put in a lovely pros and cons list.
Pros:
-> Its a lovely set of headphones. It comfortably sits around your ears with a lot of space to spare. Its padded extremely well.
-> I went through the reviews before buying the headphones. Somebody claims that it overheats after prolonged usage. Untrue. I used it for 13 hours straight, comfortably.
-> Some poorly written reviews compare this set to Chinese makes. This was the worst comparison one could make. The bass is lovely for mid-level earphones. If, however, you are an audiophile looking for the earlier Sennheiser worth quality, this set isn't for you. Try a higher end.
-> The treble and mid-vocals are rich. It soothes ones ears. Love it.
-> If you're buying for the brand name, the logo sits pretty cool on both sided.
-> Adjustable ear straps and you can tilt the headphones themselves in any angle. Free size- fits any head.
-> The picture on the site is misleading. Its larger than it looks.
-> Metalhead? Pop-lover? Grunge? These are genres which work well with the 201's. However, if you listen to dubstep, gtfo. These aren't for you.
-> I'm a gamer, somewhat. These work brilliantly, providing Surround Sound.
Cons:
-> I would like to say it has none, but I have to be honest here. For 1600Rs, Its really not the most value-for-money product on the market. However, it is just worth its price, JUST.
-> It doesn't look very durable. I'm a student and used to putting my headphones everywhere. I can't back that up, however, as I still haven't broken it.
-> Audiophiles- The bass isn't really up to the kind of bass I really like. Otherwise, its brilliant entry-level.
-> It kind of looks stupid when you wear it and walk around in public.
Its pretty big, but is of a weird shape and looks awkward.
-> The cord is REALLY long. I tie mine up, but usually its connected to an mp3 player or an iPod, and hence the cord tangles itself up in my pocket or bag.
-> Rtfm? No. No manual provided.
-> No noise cancellation. I use mine in traffic a lot. The noise always seems to get through, unless I listen at high volumes.
-> Slight noise leakage. Hardly any, but if someone is in close proximity, they can hear the music.
-> It gets better with usage. I did burn mine in on a jlab site. SimplyNoise works too, but you have to be willing to sacrifice usage for 40 hours almost.
-> Senn's deal with a higher class of people, who are willing to pay a little more for the style, (not being judgemental) similar to Dell on laptops. They are simply better, but cost a LITTLE more. Some models provide the same features for lesser. You might wanna check those.
That should conclude my review, I guess. I'm being completely honest and I hope you decide to trust my review. Seriously? Go for it. Think about the cons though.
