Good enough

I am the proud owner of Senn's Hd 201. I've used them for a week now, and would like to share my opinion on these.
This set isn't my first set of headphones, and I know that one can get headphones of better bass, treble, etc. I was intending to buy the Philips Shp2700 before this, but as the model turned obsolete, I purchased its only competitor for my price range.

To put it simply for those who intend to buy/not buy, I thought I'd put in a lovely pros and cons list.

To put it simply for those who intend to buy/not buy, I thought I'd put in a lovely pros and cons list.

Pros:
-> Its a lovely set of headphones. It comfortably sits around your ears with a lot of space to spare. Its padded extremely well.
-> I went through the reviews before buying the headphones. Somebody claims that it overheats after prolonged usage. Untrue. I used it for 13 hours straight, comfortably.
-> Some poorly written reviews compare this set to Chinese makes. This was the worst comparison one could make. The bass is lovely for mid-level earphones. If, however, you are an audiophile looking for the earlier Sennheiser worth quality, this set isn't for you. Try a higher end.
-> The treble and mid-vocals are rich. It soothes ones ears. Love it.
-> If you're buying for the brand name, the logo sits pretty cool on both sided.
-> Adjustable ear straps and you can tilt the headphones themselves in any angle. Free size- fits any head.
-> The picture on the site is misleading. Its larger than it looks.
-> Metalhead? Pop-lover? Grunge? These are genres which work well with the 201's. However, if you listen to dubstep, gtfo. These aren't for you.
-> I'm a gamer, somewhat. These work brilliantly, providing Surround Sound.

Cons:
-> I would like to say it has none, but I have to be honest here. For 1600Rs, Its really not the most value-for-money product on the market. However, it is just worth its price, JUST.
-> It doesn't look very durable. I'm a student and used to putting my headphones everywhere. I can't back that up, however, as I still haven't broken it.
-> Audiophiles- The bass isn't really up to the kind of bass I really like. Otherwise, its brilliant entry-level.
-> It kind of looks stupid when you wear it and walk around in public.
Its pretty big, but is of a weird shape and looks awkward.
-> The cord is REALLY long. I tie mine up, but usually its connected to an mp3 player or an iPod, and hence the cord tangles itself up in my pocket or bag.
-> Rtfm? No. No manual provided.
-> No noise cancellation. I use mine in traffic a lot. The noise always seems to get through, unless I listen at high volumes.
-> Slight noise leakage. Hardly any, but if someone is in close proximity, they can hear the music.
-> It gets better with usage. I did burn mine in on a jlab site. SimplyNoise works too, but you have to be willing to sacrifice usage for 40 hours almost.
-> Senn's deal with a higher class of people, who are willing to pay a little more for the style, (not being judgemental) similar to Dell on laptops. They are simply better, but cost a LITTLE more. Some models provide the same features for lesser. You might wanna check those.

That should conclude my review, I guess. I'm being completely honest and I hope you decide to trust my review. Seriously? Go for it. Think about the cons though.

Sennheiser HD 201 : Low Bass Warning - A Layman's Review

To start with I am not an audiophile, but definitely one with an 'ear for quality' ;)

Build:

Very good build quality if you ignore that its made of plastic. The headrest comes with a cushion.

The headphones are AroudEars(AE) type, which is really an advantage and very comfortable to wear.

Even though I use for continuously long hours I never encountered the warming issue, as reported in many reviews on the internet.

Audio Performance :

The headphones from the prestigious Sennheiser really scored well for clarity. They create an acoustic space around your ears.

The headphones from the prestigious Sennheiser really scored well for clarity. They create an acoustic space around your ears.

Treble : Very good rendering. You will not hear cracking even at very high volumes. Some vocals does seem a little shrill.

Bass : Not its forte. As claimed the bass is rich and crisp but you will have a *hard time* noticing it.

***These headphones are better for watching movies than enjoying your bass driven music like grunge or hip hop.

So definitely not for bass-heads.

I mostly watch movies with this headphone and really satisfied with its performance.

Love them!

I bought these last November for over 2000 bucks from Reliance Digital. I did not buy it from Flipkart but, since I have used them for long I thought of reviewing them.

To start off with, these are gaming headphones. If you are a gamer the bass from the game will amaze you. The sound is completely different if you put on these from the other normal headphones. The bass is really great and adds a new dimension to the sounds.

These are ultra light and you can put on these for hours and stay cut off from the real world. Noise cancellation is also good with these. I play for hours, and I have...

These are ultra light and you can put on these for hours and stay cut off from the real world. Noise cancellation is also good with these. I play for hours, and I have no idea what is going on in the room next to me.

About Output now, if you are expecting that the output will be great and blow your minds off, then you might be disappointed. The output is optimal, not loud. Your ears will be safe with these on.

The cable is also 3m long, which is pretty long keeping in mind the gaming purpose of the headphones.

Overall, I am satisfied. If you want to listen to loud music don't buy these, buy Sony you will get louder sound in just 500 bucks. These have good sound, good bass, with optimal and not very loud sound. The best part is clarity. Cheers. :)

Sennheiser HD201 vs Sony MDR ZX300

I have both these headphones (Sennheiser HD201 and Sony ZX300) though I did not buy it from flipkart. Based on my experience with these headphones, I must say that both are good headphones for those with a limited budget. But there are certain differences that can be a deal breaker for some people. Let me list the most evident ones.
1. Sennheiser offers a two year warranty whereas the Sony gives only one.
2. The build quality of Sennheiser is much better than the Sony. Sony is a little flimsy and doesn't look like a quality product.
3. Sennheiser HD201 is an 'Around the ear' headphone, whi...

1. Sennheiser offers a two year warranty whereas the Sony gives only one.
2. The build quality of Sennheiser is much better than the Sony. Sony is a little flimsy and doesn't look like a quality product.
3. Sennheiser HD201 is an 'Around the ear' headphone, which means your ears will be completely inside the padded cushion, resulting in hours of comfortable listening. But the ZX300 is an 'On the ear' headphone which sits on your ears and you'll have to keep this off for sometime after listening for an hour or so. Otherwise, you'll experience some irritation and pain on your ears.
4. Overall music clarity is better on the Sennheiser. Sony is not bad, but there is noticeable difference.
5. Bass on the Sennheiser HD201 is low compared to the ZX300. If you are a 'Bass lover', go for the ZX300. Sennheiser's bass is decent, but Sony is the clear winner here.
6. Headphone volume on the HD201 is low compared to the ZX300. But I feel that even the volume of ZX300 is not good enough (may be my ears have got some problem).
7. The cable length of Sennheiser HD201 is 3 meters which could be annoying for some and you'll definitely not like to travel with it. But if the sound source is little farther from you while sitting at home or office, this can be a blessing. The Sennheiser cable is thinner than the Sony, but is of good quality. The cable length of the ZX300 is just 1.3 meters which is quite sufficient for most users.
That's the comparison. Now, if you prefer overall sound clarity with a decent bass, go for the Sennheiser HD201. But if you are a 'bass lover', the ZX300 could satisfy you more than the HD201.

Bang for Buck

These headphones are amazing value for money.

I have developed a good ear to judge sound quality and these headphones are very good for the price when compared with much more expensive headphones. They produce very natural treble and clear bass. So instruments can be heard very clearly.

If you are just looking for overly bass boosted headphones to play the usual pop music, these headphones are not for you.

Use :
They are great for home use, but not suitable for travel, since the wire is quite long and the volume cannot be increased very high to overcome outside noise.

What I use it for :
I bought these headphones to act as an inexpensive monitor of the sound while recording and mixing audio. It is perfect for that, since the audio is very natural and no frequencies are boosted or changed in any way. You will hear the audio as it is without coloring it.

For music :
They are great for rock music, and metal where clarity of different sounds is important. The volume is not overly loud enough to hurt your ears.

I must mention that some of the other comments stating that the bass is not enough are absolutely untrue.
The bass is perfect and very clear while still not overpowering the rest of the audio and making your head ache.

Build :
The build quality is good and very very light.
They are extremely comfortable and can be worn for long hours.
External sound is moderately isolated.

Decent entry level headphones.

For something at this price you cant expect a lot. Virtually no bass and very limited range. But if you want a cheap headphones you wanna use for office and dont mind if it gets stolen or damaged by someone, these are you best bet sub 800INR headphones. noise isolation is decent. Sennheiser HD 201

Really good headphones. The sound is fairly balanced. These headphones are more than what I expected for the money.

A couple of negatives:
1) The cord is really long
2) The headphones could do with some loudness.

WORTH THE MONEY!
