Sensual Sovereigns highlights three beautiful and powerful queens of Egypt: Tiye, Hatshepsut and Nefertari -- beloved wives, lovers, and devoted mothers. Tiye was the great love of Pharaoh Amenhotep III's life. Tiye resisted her fate to become the pharaoh's wife, until she felt his powerful arms hold her and his soft lips kiss her. Tiye and Amenhotep faced two adversaries who threatened to tear them apart: Nekeshah -- a cast-off lover of Amenhotep, and King Zeshra -- a vengeful Hittite king who plotted revenge against Amenhotep and lusted after Tiye. For political reasons and to please her father, Princess Hatshepsut married her ugly half-brother, Prince Thutmoses. He allowed her to take a lover, Senmut, as long as she stayed out of Egypt's civil affairs. Hatshepsut pretended to be the submissive wife and daughter until the day came for her to assume the Egyptian throne. After the deaths of her father and brother, Hatshepsut took the throne from her stepson/nephew and declared herself sole ruler and pharaoh. Beautiful and elegant Princess Nefertari was Pharaoh Ramses II's object of relentless passion. Ramses the Great had a weakness for beautiful women, including his wife's best friend, Queen Isofrenet. Nefertari's love for her husband was so soul-binding that she forgave him. Ramses' great love for Nefertari provoked jealousy amongst his three Hittite wives, who plotted to kill Queen Nefertari.
