Amandine-Aurore-Lucile Dudevant wrote under the pen name of George Sand. Known for being unconventional and a champion for women, Sand wrote not only novels, but for the theater and autobiographical accounts of her life. The story of her life is contained in her letters, novels and prefaces. She was the frankest, sincerest and least egotistical of women, but could not write a line without revealing herself. The selection and grouping of these revelations and the attempt to place them on a clear and vivid background is the aim of this biographer.
