Description

The stories encompass a gamut of writing styles and settings as the authors are from diverse backgrounds; unified only by their common love; that of the written word. Though the characters and stories straddle a wide spectrum, a deliberate effort has been made to keep the feel of the book constant. If you find any of the emotions familiar, or a tale finds an echo in the recesses of your heart, the authors will consider it an affirmation of their belief that this book is a job well done.

The book is divided into three sections, a) Light grey b) Dark grey and c) Black. The book starts with stories which are a tad lighter, sometimes even amusing, but then gradually transcends to darker settings and characters. The book ends in a crescendo with the Black section, which has some really dark stories that touch upon the nadir of urban angst and degeneration.

Shades is in fashion

It started with 50 Shades ...
Then we had
Umpteen sequels
Of Shades of Gray, ( lost count)

Shades of Love,
Ten shades of life,
And now Shades of Sin.
Safe to say that Shades is in.

I digress, my take on this book
Is that it is worth a look.

Attractive cover, varied stories,
Some are light, some very dark, and some sad.
Some are super, some are fair, none are bad.

Worth reading, is my verdict,
The publisher did a pretty good deed
By making this book easy to read.

Definitely a must read!

I absolutely loved the book! Each writer, and therefore each story, has its own distinct style. Yet the stories read very well as a collection of stories on a common theme. And all the stories are gripping. Like the Pringles ad says: Once you start, you can't stop! :-)

I would highly recommend this book to all short story lovers without any hesitation.

Oh and I absolutely loved the cover! Kudos to the cover designer.

A good book

A GOOD book .with attractive cover, beautiful presentation and nice stories.
The characters are down to earth , friendly ,common ppl with a lot of if`s and but`s while going or not going to do a job.
Later on,justification of the work is also done with the same intensity.Such descriptions of a thought procedure make it unique book.
The book is successful in maintaining the curiosity of reader till the end in almost each and every story.
In view, that the writers are not professional`s and t...

Short takes on Sin

The book is not bad but it suffers from fluctuating quality.
Some tales are good, some are okay. One or two are brilliant.
I liked Shouting out loud, Versions of reality and Blue shoes.
Burn, The golden knife and A reason to smile are a bit murky.
I anticipated the twists of Slight of white and Tamale's temptation.
I almost guessed the ending of The bet and Ping.
Some like Kalpana and The diary are too dark.
The ending of some like The city never sleeps,Standing tall, The confession and Vi...

Awesome Book, as you progress story by story the book kind of grows on you..

The writers have all worked together to weave up a great concoction of stories which when read progressively kind of grow on you in a way that reading the next story becomes irresistible...

I am happy to see some good Indian writers coming up, the likes of Prem Chand in old times...

A ray of hope in dark

Sin is universal, but is it that bad? Humans are prone to succumb to temptation, pride, lust, desire, jealousy and anger. The book takes a look at various aspects of sin. To sin is evil; but is everyone who fall prey to it evil? The stories in the book take a look at this and other dilemmas of human existence and folly. An eclectic collection, the stories convey various shades, from light to the darkest shade of black. And I like the take home message, that Sin does not pay in the end.

Not bad :-)

I love short stories. And this did not disappoint me.The tone of the book is dark. But it is not depressing. Rather, it gives a message of hope without being too preachy.
Pick of the writers- Can't really say. All are good. The styles are very different but stories are well knit and belong together. The book does not mention the name of the editor but he/ she has done a fab job.
Best story- Tie between 'Burn' and ' The City never sleeps'!
Excellent production quality.
Overall, I wish for more...

fresh..

One publisher...Six writers....Twenty-five stories!!! My take-

Burn- Differently different
A woman's touch- Subtle and wicked
Shouting out loud- Funnily sad
Blue shoes- Philosophical
The Golden Knife- A touch of pathos
The butterfly effect- Contemporary and full of angst
An illicit thought- Erotic without being vulgar
For the love of God- Could be a true story
The bet- Scary
The yellow top- Could be a Bollywood film
A leap of faith- Almost believed it
Dhaba- Wierd, but nicely so.
Tamale's t...

Refreshing

The book starts off with a few feel good stories and then there are a bunch of dark stories. The book ends in a crescendo, touching upon some of the darkest human emotions and behavior. Some stories really shake you up and get you thinking.

An anthology definitely not to be missed.
