  • Description

The Shadow Throne displays taut writing and nail-biting suspense in a debut that is chillingly believable. Will this unlikely trio succeed in navigating the treacherous, shadowy politics of India and Pakistan?

A mysterious murder at the Qutub Minar triggers a call to ace journalist Chandrasekhar from his cop acquaintance, Inspector Syed Ali Hassan. The victim is unlike anyone Chandra has ever seen: a white Caucasian male who has all the looks of a throwback to Greek antiquity. Soon after, Hassan calls in to report the case has been taken away from him in all likelihood by RAW the Research & Analysis Wing, the uber-agency of Indian intelligence.

What began as a murder enquiry soon morphs into a deadly game of hide-and-seek within the shadowy world of Pakistan’s ISI and India’s RAW; and Chandra, his friend history professor Meenakshi Pirzada and Hassan find themselves in a race against time to avert a sub-continental nuclear holocaust. As the action moves to its hair-raising climax among the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan, Chandra must face up to the fact that Inspector Hassan is not all that he seems…

Fantastic books and other top Indian books and Authors

A very good attemp as a new comer. Well said by Flipkart. India's answer to Dan Brown. I think India is answering in a nice way by producing talented new authors. Some of them I have mentioned below.I am a vivid reader and read almost all the books that come my way.

    1. I too had a love story - Ravinder Singh
    2. That's the way we met - Sudeep Nagarkar
    3. How I braved Any Aunty - Varun Aggarwal
    4. The Backbenchers - Siddharth Oberoi
    5. The immortals of Melhua- Amish Tripathi

    A time-pass read

Book starts off well with good detailing and taut suspense. The premise is well-researched. But once you know the culprits midway, there's little surprise left. Writing is shoddy in latter half and climax is straight out of a bollywood movie. It feels like writer was in hurry to finish off the book.
Language is good but I hate the use of Hindi (the Chetan Bhagat style) in conversations.

To sum it up, as an espionage thriller (very rarely tried genre in India) it's a good attempt and I'll be...

    The Shadow Throne

I just finished reading this 9-11 release --- The Shadow Throne. Without an iota of exaggeration, I would say, I was elated with the experience. I happened to get stuck to the plot just after reading a few pages. As a bestseller reader, I would put this down in the 'unputdownable' category... with an engrossing build-up to the finish. Just maybe it will be a movie soon. And I haven't seen Indo-Anglian writings in this genre. So, I hope this is not the last work of its kind from Mr.Raman. Grea...

    what if it were true

Aroon Raman's The Shadow Throne is his first novel and he displays a good keen sense for attention to detail.
The story line is of course very intriguing, the reader can identify with the plot and feel it happening as if reading in a newspaper. I liked reading it through and through.
The Kushan bit seemed a little outlandish but all in all a very good novel. simple, neat and clean way of writing.

    Very good read

Really liked this book. And it is more rewarding to know that an Indian author is capable of writing in the likes of Dan Brown or David Baldacci.
Very fast paced and well elaborated with history and mythology.
Looking forward to his next book.

    Fast paced thriller

The concept is good and the plot has enough in it to keep you interested , The culmination of facts and fiction is also commendable. The narrative style can be improved but on the whole its a good fast read.

    GOOD ONE

Finished the book in a day. I must say the writer does think out of the box. Good story but there wasn't much suspense in the story. It was just the question of when. WHO and WHAT were not present in the story we knew the villains right from the start and the remaining villains went undisclosed but i must say it would make a good action movie. Nicely plotted story with very intelligent portrayal of characters. Someone said here RAW is the villain but I think he didn't read the book quite well...

    Enjoyable read!

Enjoyable plot, something different from the usual stuff, yes some Indians might be offended, but i feel we should be mature enough to realise that there are bad elements everywhere, we would be naive to think otherwise.

No gramatical errors or typos, which was a refreshing change from some of my recent reads.

Have to give the author kudos since it is his debut novel, well researched and well presented, keeping current geopolitical incidents in mind.

Its not mind blowing or extraordinary ...
