An excellent first offering from Ms Hart, thoroughly enjoyable and certainly recommended Review by James HamillA cracking tale of revolution and, intrigue, hope and a little bit of love β this is exactly the kind of book that has you turning pages increasingly rapidly as you hurtle towards its conclusion - a fantastic read for any good holiday.
Shadows of Freedom is remarkable for its depiction of an entirely fictitious county, Costadora with such detail and accuracy that you may well be forgiven for getting out the atlas to pinpoint its exact location.
Its people, its topography, its culture, its politics are so convincing that from the very beginning you are drawn into an utterly believable and expertly crafted yarn from Yvonne Hart that has you really caring for the unfortunate Celia Martinez from page one, a real sense of a county in turmoil and, as with all good page turners, the subsequent escalation towards a finale that contains an unexpected twist.
The only thing that would make my day now would be to actually see the famed polanza with my own eyes!
