When the Exxon Valdez ran aground in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on March 24, 1989 more than 100,000 barrels of oil flooded the shoreline, contaminating the pristine waters of the Alaskan Paradise.Silence in the Sound was written from Merle Savage's experiences while employed during the pretentious clean-up.
